Barry's pov
"Does anyone else have a bad feeling about this?" Jasper asks, staring at the building in front of us.
"Definitely. Who's ready to go in?" Carter asks, his daredevil side showing. In all honesty, I think he was just trying to show off for Kyla, who was standing beside Piper.
"Are you sure you guys don't want me to go with you?" Kyla questions, frowning at the rundown factory.
"Positive. Thanks for driving us here though," I reply, thankful that we didn't have to take yet another bus on our trip.
"No problem. But I'm still going to wait out here for you five to come back outside," she says, determined. I nod, feeling relieved to have backup.
"Piper do you have a plan?" Cassidy asks. She seemed the most calm or of all of us, which was really unusual.
"Divide and conquer. Me and you, Jasper and Barry. Carter can wait out for a minute, then go in and meet Barry and Jasper. That way we have three groups of people going in if there are security cameras being monitored. That'll keep them searching if they come after us. Anyways, are we ready?" She questions. The other five of us, including Kyla, nod. Piper links arms with Cassidy then the two of them run into the building.
"Ready man?" Jasper questions.
"I guess so. Let's go get my sister back," I say, jogging beside him.
About five minutes later Carter came running inside. He spots us and walks over, ducking down beside us. His face was completely red.
"Don't tell me that you're all red because you jogged into the building," Jasper says, frowning at Carter.
"I asked Kyla out on a date," he says.
"Oh. That's great for yo-"
"She already has a girlfriend," he continues. I cut myself off and bite down on my tongue, determined not to laugh. Jasper was having a harder time. It's not that it was really funny or anything, it was just kind of ironic.
"Shut up idiots. At least I had the balls to ask out the girl I like, Barry," Carter grumbles. I immediately stop smiling, my eyes wide.
"Wait a second. Who does Barry like?" Jasper asks, confused.
"Isn't it obvious?" Carter teases, using similar wording, "He has a crush on Cassidy."
"Shut up," I snap, my face burning. Jasper and Carter snicker at my reaction.
"We need to go. Violet's probably waiting for us," I lie, desperate to escape this conversation. I stand up and my two friends follow my lead. We cautiously travel deeper into the building.
~
"Barry? Jasper? Carter? Thank God I found you guys!" Officer Marcus exclaims, jogging over to us. I stop dead in my tracks. So do Carter and Jasper.
"What are you doing here?" Jasper questions, suspicious.
"Chasing down a lead. I'm so glad I found you guys. Where are the girls? Piper and Cassidy?" He asks. Something was off with him though.
"Barry, run," Carter whispers. Officer Marcus's expression changes.
"Boys, come with me right now," he commands.
"We're alright. Thanks for the offer though," I say, taking a step back.
Officer Marcus sighs, "I was hoping that this wouldn't have to be difficult." Next thing I know, someone was handcuffing my hands behind my back. I try to struggle, but the stranger overpowered me easily. Jasper and Carter were in the same situation as me.
"So now what?" Carter snarls, "You take us back home to our parents and ruin Violet's only chance?" Officer Marcus just cackles and walks forward. The men push us along.
~
"Barry!" Violet shouts, jumping up. The man shoves me into the cell with my sister. Jasper and Carter tumble in after me. Violet rushed forward and hugs me tightly. I hold her back, scared that if I let go, she'd disappear.
"Sir, we found this girl wandering around," a newcomer says, shoving Piper. She tumbles into the cell.
"Don't touch my sister you douche bag!" Carter yells. He was protective over Piper.
"Officer Marcus, how could you? You were supposed to help us find Violet," I say, confused.
He rolls his eyes, "Where's the other girl? Callie or something."
"Cassidy went home. She didn't want to come in the first place. She took our remaining money and bought a plane ticket home," I lie, determined to keep Cassidy safe. Marcus watches me for a second, then decides I'm being honest.
"It's alright if we're missing one. Let's go," he calls. The group of five men leave us all alone in the cell.
