Eric was exhausted, he had gone out with 3 separate teams to look for Morgan. He was determined, and also weary of what he was going to find outside the city, but was even more baffled when he found nothing.
"We have been eradicating factionless and god knows how many divergents every day, for the past year. We didn't find any bodies in the nearby building we searched, and the ones we found were all factionless, not one divergent."
He sipped at his beer, his head was pounding, and he wanted to go out just one more time, but his body screamed at him to stop for two minutes.
In all his outings he had gone as far as he could, until the city was just a blur in the horizon, but not wanting to get lost, he had returned with nothing.
"If I found no divergents then that means that they are hiding somewhere, somewhere really far off. And I don't know how but they're not doing it alone. There's no way they covered that much ground in the blazing heat of sun, no water, no food, and made it out"
"So you're saying someone is helping them?" Creed asked. They had all just returned from their last outing and were sharing a drink before Eric decided they had to go out again.
"Yes, I don't know who or how. But we're not as alone as we thought."
Eric finished his drink and stood up, his body screamed at him one more time, all of his muscles were tense with so much pressure he sat down again. Running his hands on his hair and sighing heavily, he felt a pat on the shoulder.
The door of the bar opened, and the clicking of heels filled the silence. Eric turned and sat straight when he saw Jeanine walking in with two of her people.
She linked her hands in front of her.
"Any news?"
"No, we couldn't find anything within a 30 mile radius."
She pursed her lips in disapproval.
"I'm sorry for your lost Eric"
"She isn't dead, she was taken" he interrupted, Jeanine didn't like that at all because of the way she looked to the side annoyed "my wife is a resourceful woman, if I don't find her she'll find me"
Jeanine looked back at Eric, her arms crossed and she walked to him just a few steps.
"Information has reached my ears that Morgan might have faulted the faction system, and plotted with the divergents that" she raised her hands and gestured "captured her"
Eric frowned, and stood up, ignoring the ache in his legs.
"What are you saying?" He walked to her slowly
"Someone is willing to testify that Morgan-"
"Who?" Eric interrupted again.
"I've vowed to keep that information classified, for the well being of my informant"
Eric lifted his eyebrow and crossed his arms.
"I can easily get to the conclusion of who it was, so you better tell me-"
"I assume you'll deal with this matter objectively, as if she wasn't your wife. If she's guilty of innocent, you'll find proof. Otherwise if she does indeed come back, I won't let her in the city"
Eric took a step back and smiled humorlessly.
"I would like to see you try"
Jeannine smiled as well, accepting the challenge silently and turned around
"And I expect this current matter to continue be addressed, I don't want any time delays on our schedule" she said while walking out.
When the door closed Eric cursed loudly
