I wasn't even fully in the supermarket before I had to admit to myself that my mom had been right.

Before we moved to Canada, mom said that the mentality would be different. In Antwerp you would never be greeted, if you were lucky you would get a curt nod but even those were rare. If you expected to be greeted, you'd be dissapointed.

Then the previous year I moved to another part of the Provence and I was shocked when a lot of people- a lot of older people- would still say hello in the street without being forced to. Sure, there were also some younger people, people around my age, said it as well but most of the time it wasn't willingly and more because it was expected. Though even I had to admit that there were some young people that actually did say it willingly.

Here I hadn't even fully walked into the shop when people started saying hello and asked how I was. When they realized they had never seen me before, they asked if I had just recently moved there and welcomed me when I said I did.

Some people didn't say hello but did look at me with kind eyes. Others glared. Some just ignored me.

I quickly grabbed everything Mom told me to get and went back home after paying to a nice cashier. On my way home I was stopped several more times to say hello and ask if I moved there recently.

Yeah, just today.

When I got home, I saw the car outside on the driveway which meant that Dad and Oliver were home with my sister and little niece.

Making my way to the kitchen, avoiding the living room where I hear voices coming from. I put the bags on the counter and started unloading them, putting them in cupboards. While I was putting the stuff away, Mom silently joined me and helped me.

"Did you get everything?" She asked as she put the last jar away.

"Yeah,-" I answered. "-I got everything and bought a bottle of water as well to drink."

"Okay. Why don't you go join your siblings and father in the living room. One of your brother's friend is here. He'll go to school with you, you'll both be in Senior Year." She explained. "He agreed to show you around school and drive you there every morning, he lives just down the street and has to pass our house anyway when he goes to school."

"Mom-" I started.

She cut me of with her oh so famous 'do-not-bother-to-argue' look. "Don't. Don't argue with me, just take the invitation. He's very kind for doing this."

"Yes, mother, he is but you know I didn't move here to make lots of friends and saddle them up with my problems." I explained, knowing that she was already aware of my reasons, she was actually the one that I discussed it with.

"I know but no one is forcing you to saddle him with them. You don't even have to talk to him about them. If you don't want to talk about them you don't have to. Just don't be a bitch to him."

"So basically I can't be myself." I shrugged.

"Darling, you're not a bitch. You're a very nice and kind young woman and one day you'll get over your fears and problems and you'll see you're nothing like the bitch you say you are and see you for who you truly are."

"One day. Unfortunately that one day isn't today." I said before going through the doors and into the living room.

Shocked, I stood still as I saw my brother's friend.

It was Shawn Mendes, a member of Magcon and internet sensation. I had been a fan since the very beginning. I found his voice and musical abilities very good and fell in love with his voice. I always wished I could meet him but never got my hopes up because I knew it was unlikely. But apparently it wasn't as unlikely as I though it was as he was sitting in my living room.

He was looking at my brother with a beautiful smile, his hair messed up as always and with a Harry Potter sweatshirt. It was gray and had the Hogwarts sign on the front.

I shook myself out of my stupor and walked to the sofa where Dad sat down with Maybelle in his arms. I sat down next to him and smiled when the conversation stopped.

"That's my sister." Oliver said when no one said anything but Shawn and I did look at each other.  "Charlotte, this is-"

"Shawn Mendes. I know him." I interrupted, putting on my bitch face.

He may be my idol and I may love him but he will be no exeption to my rule. I will not let anyone close to me and saddle them with my problems and definitely not him.

"Oh, do you watch my videos?" Shawn asked kindly.

Yet my bitchy attitude remained. "I do but don't flatter yourself. I don't think you're that good."

With that, I stood up and walked the stairs to my room. I knew I'd get a lecture by one of my parents- probably mom- and by my brother. I knew Mom would tell me that I would lose a lot of people in my life and end up alone if I didn't lose the attitude. Ollie would probably tell me that he didn't want to lose his friend because of my attitude.

I didn't want him to lose friends because of me. I already made him move all the way here and leave a lot of friends behind. He did that without complaining once. He just did it and followed us, allowing us a new chance.

Guess I would have to apologize to Shawn and say that he shouldn't let how I treat him affect his relationship with my brother.

That would be for tomorrow, now I would start unpacking and I would begin with my books.

They were nearly all unpacked when a knock was at the door.

With a frown, I stood up and walked to the door and gasped at the person in front of me because he was the last I thought would come to my room. After how I treated him, I thought that he wouldn't mind me and just ignore me as I planned to do with him.

"Shawn." I gasped.
