The first week of school ended soon and homework kept piling up along with assignments. I had already completed two individual ones and there was only one assignment I still had to work on but I had agreed to meet up with Shawn and do it together.
Standing in front of my mirror, checking to see if my outfit was a good idea, it had me feeling nervous. I found my behavior to be stupid because I thought that I started acting like it was a date a lot but it wasn't and I knew that it would never happen but the butterflies and the squezy feeling in my stomach made me think otherwise.
"Charlotte?" Mom asked before she came into my room. "My God, you look amazing."
"Thanks." I said with a blush, looking down.
I had chosen to wear a red, knitted cropped sweater with black jeans and black combat boots. A leather jacket laid out on my bed, waiting until I would pick it up but I had to put my earrings on first and choose a necklace along with a ring.
While I didn't wear jewelry a lot, I always wear a trio of those three because I felt that one couldn't go without the other- call me crazy, but I feel like that. I also feel incomplete if I don't have earrings in so I pretty much felt like that all the time because I always forget them in the morning.
"What earrings will you wear?" Since I was fully awake, mom knew I wouldn't forget to put them in. "I like the charm drop earrings, with the little crown and bird- the pair that your father and I got for you last Christmas."
I rummaged through my stuff, trying to find them and came up lucky after only 20 seconds.
Now for a necklace, that's something entirely different because I have no idea which one I could wear and which one I couldn't. While I am sure that most girls see that stuff, I am not one of those girls.
I am not one to follow the latest trends. I am not a person to look up the VS fashion show after it happened in Paris or something. I didn't even know that the New York fashion week was real, I thought it was just something they made up for Gossip Girl.
That was painful...
Out of nowhere, a hand shot out to my necklaces and picked one out I had no idea I still owned.
It was a long necklace with multiple chains. It would perfectly fit my outfit.
"Thanks, mom."
"So, where will he be taking you?"
"His house." I answered, oblivious to what she thought it was going to be.
"He is taking the cheap way out?" She asked, sounding appaled.
I turned to look at her. "Mom, we're going to work on an assignment for History. We're partners for the subject. It's due Wednesday. Did you really think that I would be going out with him?"
"Well, he is a nice boy, a very nice one and he is handsome as well. I know for a fact that your father would approve of him."
"Just as Ollie would. Mom, for now I'm not going to date anyone- you can be happy that we're friends. For now, I am planning to just stay alone, by the way I am meeting with a shrink Wednesday. Dad will be dropping me off."
"He told me. Is this something you want to do yourself? I mean, it's not something you're only doing because you feel that you have to do it, is it?"
I put a hand on her arm, looking at her with what I hope to be a reassuring look. "Mom, it's what I want. I want to get better- what happened can not happen again, I need to change for that."
"What if he or she recommends a facility?"
"Then I'll go. Whatever is the right thing to do. I want to become better, I need to get better. For Maybelle, for Dad, for you."
