Shawn and I were sitting in the backyard doing our assignment. We had been working non-stop for over an hour- correction, he had been working non-stop for over an hour.

We had to do an assignment about the Pre-Columbian time. We had to make a story about the Inca's and their religion that would clearly show what they believed in and how they worshipped them.

Shawn was writing it while I was looking for information. He thought that I might want a break from writing because I always write stories which is not the case, I'll never tire from writing. It is my dream to one day become a published author but for now I was fine with putting my stories on the Internet and sharing it with my loyal readers.

"Do you want a drink?" He asked, taking a break from typing.

I nodded. "I'll get it. I feel like I have done nothing and you've done everything."

"You-"

"Searched for information on my phone. Information I already had on my phone because I've had this same assignment in Belgium already, I didn't really search. So why don't you go back to typing and I'll go get our drinks?"

"Sounds good to me." He said, turning to his computer again.

I left him alone to go into his house. It was a beautiful house and even though they were with less than my family, it was bigger than my house. It had two more rooms and the space was just bigger. Standing outside, I never would've guessed that it was bigger than mine but looks can deceive.

I walked into the kitchen to find his mother, who had specifically told me to call her Karen and no Mrs. Mendes, behind the stove already starting dinner. From the smell of it, it would be delicious.

"Hello, dear. Are you looking for something?" She asked, wiping her hands on a towel.

"Yes, I told Shawn I would get us drinks."

"Oh, yes. I completely forgot. Aaliyah and I made lemonade if you'd like? Or if you'd prefer water, we have that as well."

"Lemonade is fine." I interrupted her.

"Alright, dear, why don't you go to my son again and I'll bring it out. Tell Shawn dinner will be ready in half an hour." She told me.

I nodded. "Okay. Thank you."

"No worries, dear." She told me before ushering me out.

I joined Shawn again who was now in the company of his sister, Aaliyah. They were interacting so sibling-like. I used to be like that with Ollie as well before we came here. We used to hang out every week at least one full day, our other sisters weren't allowed. He already has a job here and he works odd hours so  we don't really have the time to that here.

As much as we argue sometimes and though I would never admit it to him, I miss him. I miss the time we spent together, we always had a good time together.

We would do all kinds of stuff together, it would be things from going to the theater to catch a movie or we'd just hang out together somewhere in the city or somewhere around the house but we haven't done that in a while, for over a year.

We are planning to do that in a couple of weeks. Before we moved here, we were looking at places we could go to so we could be together for a day and be alone, just us.

In the end, we decided to go to a concert. Drake would come to Toronto soon and we booked tickets the first day they were up for sale.

Looking at Shawn and Aaliyah, I felt a pang of pain in my chest. It was hard to see them like that, all sibling-like. It was nice to see them like that but I was still a bit jealous because I didn't have that with any of my siblings now. Stefanie was living in Belgium, Clarissa was a mother now and Ollie was working full time now.

"I'll leave you guys now, I'll leave you two to do some work- I've got my own homework to get to. Bye, guys."

"Bye." I said, watching her leave.

I looked at my watch, seeing 5 full minutes had passed and his mother was now walking through the double doors to us with a plate with two glasses and a can of lemonade.

Karen put it down with a smile. "Dinner will take longer than anticipated, dears. It should be ready within the next 40 minutes."

"Okay, thanks mo-"

Shouting inside the house cut us off, making us look up. Karen was the first to hurry inside but when it still didn't stop, Shawn and I went inside as well with me a bit behind him.

"You don't let me do anything!" Aaliyah yelled. "You treat me as if I'm 5 instead of 12! You just don't want me to grow up! Ugh!"

She stormed out and I went to follow her, while Karen and Manuel both wanted to do the same. "Stay here. I'll talk to her."

"Wh-"

I ran up the stairs to her room. I opened the door and saw her on her bed looking angry. Quietly I walked into her room, sitting down on her bed.

"You know, they only want to best for you."

"The best for me? They only want me to stay their little girl forever." She huffed.

"That's the best for you. They want you to experience life on your tempo. It's the best for you." I informed her.

"How? How is it the best for me?"

"You don't want to be older, having kids and seeing how you missed out on things because you wanted to grow up too much. It'll make you leave your kids and life behind because you want to find yourself." I told her, looking down angrily because this was bringing up a part of my past that I didn't want to remember.

"Is that really something that happens?"

"More than you know."

"God, I don't want that."

"Than don't grow up too fast. Don't go and party too soon, don't drink alcohol too soon, don't go and have boyfriends too soon. Or at all, take it from me- boys are not a good thing for you now. I started too young, I regret it."

"Were you ever.. you know..."

"Pressured into sex? No, I can seem like a sweet girl now but truly, I'm a bitch. Really. If anyone pressured anyone, it was me pressuring them."

"Ha!" Aaliyah exclaimed. "Ha!"

"It may seem funny but it's true. You should ask how I asked your brother when we first met."

"You were a bitch!" She yelled, laughing hysterically again.
