Chapter Two

Boy In The Woods

Conner finished his story and looked to me again.

“So, Lightning…what do you think?” he asked in a low voice.

Everyone was shaking with fear and jumped at every noise they heard. They were all staring at me with intense eyes.

I shrugged.

“Honestly I think his parents deserved what they got, though his brother didn’t deserve it, but I honor him for being sweet about it. More or less the story isn’t scary, it’s actually interesting how a bully can cause someone to practically lose their mind. Honestly they hand it coming to them.”

Conner stared at me with a shocked expression. He recovered and said in an amused voice, “You are seriously messed up Lightning.” His laugh caused all the others to laugh nervously.

Babies. I thought to myself.

“Alright everyone, get indoors and stay indoors until you have permission from your leaders to leave.”

Everyone walked sluggishly indoors. I was the last inside. As they shut and locked the door, I went to the kitchen and made myself a sandwich. After finishing it I went to my room and was just about to climb into bed when I remembered something.

I had left my phone outside. Clary was crashed on her bed, as was Aylissa. I didn’t see the harm in it so, I walked out of the room and to the front door.

I tried the door repeatedly, but it wouldn’t budge.

“Sorry Hun, whatever you left outside stays there till morning.” A man spoke behind me. I was slightly startled because I didn’t think anyone would be up at this hour.

After looking at my watch I saw it was 12:30AM.

I looked up at him. He had brown hair and bright baby blue eyes. They were warm as he stared at me with a sorry expression.

I cocked my head to the side and gave him my Bambi eyes. “Please, I promised my mom I would text her when I was going to bed and its right outside the door! Please!” his eyes went cold for a moment as he looked down at his feet.

“Fine, but make it fast.” He pulled out a key chain with thousands of keys attached. He pushed a gold one with a blue tip into the door and opened it.

I ran out to the dead fire and searched for my phone. It was to dark to really see anything. Even with the silver rays of light from the crescent moon, offered almost no light.

Moments later, I found it near the gate door.

How the crap did this get here? I asked myself.

I picked it up and heard a despicable laugh that lacked any humor. I stood up tall and took the defensive stance I had learned after my ten and a half years of Karate.

The gate had one light hanging over the entrance, it was dim, but it was enough to see the strange figure beneath it.

I couldn’t see his face behind his white and red hoodie, but I could tell it was a boy. He just kept laughing and laughing; staring straight at me.

All the sudden he stopped his large fit of laughter and cocked his head to the side. Then he turned and ran into the dark forest.

I stared at the tree line for what felt like hours. I didn’t know why but I actually had to fight myself from going after him.
