Chapter Twelve
Control? What Control?
“There you go, all stitched up!” Jack patted my head and helped me stand.
Everything was still bury and I was a little surprised when he picked me up placed me on the bed. Nothing made sense anymore. Why wasn’t I dead, why was I here? Why were they being so kind to me? All these questions made my head pound viciously in my head.
Ok Lightning just stop thinking, just…sleep…
Jack laid a blanket over me and walked out of the room. My eyes dropped helplessly before closing and finally I slept.
“I don’t care what you think about her, she is just like all the other idiots here and we all know she will die all the same!” his voice boomed loudly below me.
I had woken up a few minutes ago to light screeches of anger, all of which involving me.
It was still dark out when I looked out the window, so I know I didn’t sleep for long.
“Jeffery, she seems nice maybe you should give her a chance.” Jane’s soft voice carried to me.
“Shut up Jane, no one asked you!” He screamed back. So far, Jack, Jane, and Ben have defended me, saying things I didn’t quite understand.
“Jeff, face it, we are going through with it and there is nothing you can do.” It was a new voice now. It was deep, dark, and loud.
“You’re all acting like adolescent fools!” Stomping lead to the slamming of the front door, and then a long silence fell on the house
The silence down stairs broke into a conversation about Ben and his video games on the floor.
I was still tired; I was tempted to go back to sleep and my eyes were already falling shut. When they finally closed and something cracked outside the window.
I didn’t bother trying to opening my eyes, I was to tired. The window creaked open and the wood creaked as someone stepped on it.
Whoever it was didn’t move from the window. At least that was what I thought. Something soft brushed against my cheek making me freeze.
Whatever it was, growled deeply jumped on the bed and nudged me.
Open your eyes! Something screamed in my mind. My eyes flew open and gazed at the sickening animal above me.
Bloody and with the same revolting smile, Jeff had. This had to be Smile, the one, and only demonic dog that will rip my throat out while I sleep.
Follow me, little one. I stared wide eye as he jumped to the floor and through the window.
I sat still on the bed and just stared, I was utterly shocked at what I had just seen and heard I couldn’t move.
Come! He barked in my head making me jump. I stood slowly and dragged myself to the windowsill. I stuck my head out and looked around.
There was about a foot of clearance from the window before it dropped three stories to the ground.
Great the dog wants me to die too. I sighed and put a foot through the window, soon followed by the other. I was panting at this point. I didn’t have the energy for this. I just sat there and thought for a moment. What does the dog want? Couldn’t this wait for after I died and didn’t have to move? I laughed to myself quietly and flinched a little when his voice growled in my head again.
Hurry we don’t have time for you to rest.
I groaned with resistance, but slowly stood and rounded the charred roof. I looked up to stare at the full moon only to find it wasn’t so full anymore. It was full last time I looked at it…I must have been asleep longer than I thought.
The roof creaked loudly below me and I prayed silently that it wouldn’t break under me.
Stop. I stopped; it wasn’t something I wanted to do I just did. I was standing in a small dent that was creaking and cracking.
This isn’t good.
“I don’t recommend moving, you see the roof is very weak there and you will break it and fall three stories right into Laughing Jack’s torture room. He doesn’t take to kindly to intruders.”
Someone sighed behind me. “Jeffery, I think it wise that you leave her alone. Slendy will be furious if you harm her again.” I looked back and stared at a little girl in a bloody white dress. Her small face was stained, blood was in her long brown hair, and her leg had many scuffs and bruises on it. Just staring at her made me want to hug her and take care of her.
Her bright green eyes stared innocently over my head. I followed her gaze and found Jeff leaned up against the chimney a few feet above me. Smile sat with him.
I was glad the moon was casting a shadow over their faces so I didn’t have to look at their horrible smiles.
“Sally you should stay out of my business,” He said in a mocking tone. “Plus, she followed Smile; whatever happens to her isn’t my fault.” He laughed and patted Smile’s head.
Smile slowly made his way down and stood a few feet in front of me.
He barked loudly and lunged at me. I tried to leap forward, but the roof caved in. I watched as Smile landed on the other side of the hole and smiled down at me as I fell.
I landed on a bed and bounced off onto the floor. The room was pitch black; minus the moonlight that lit up the bed. The only thing I could hear was Pop Goes The Weasel playing somewhere in the room.
I stood slowly and examined my stitches with my fingers. They were still together, good.
Something crashed on the other side off the room and the music stopped. I took a step back and another as a set of glowing eyes looked at me from the other side of the room.
I took another step back and was now against the wall.
“Oh ho ho, what is this? A new guest, well I think you will quiet enjoy this next part, in fact it’s to die for!” his voice was high and filled with amusement.
He started making his way to me, laughing.
“JACKIE!” a door busted open and flew across the room, slamming into the wall next to me. Light spilled into the room reveling the jester in front of me, but I wasn’t focused on him I was busy looking at my savior.
A tall figure stood in the doorway. My eyes slowly made their way to his face; the face I knew was blank.
“Lightning, walgonm blu jah caomladee…” everything grew fuzzy instantly, but I accepted it. I was ready to die. I blacked out willingly.
I woke back up in my room, back at the cabins. I practically fell out of bed to the mirror to check my side. All stitched up…it wasn’t a dream.
