~ Chapter Eighteen ~
"Love is giving them the power to destroy you... but trusting them not to."
Aiden's eyes stayed on mine. He drunk me in. He started from the top of my head where his hand was in my hair, went to my eyes, my button nose, my chin, my chest, lower, then snapped back up to my eyes. His grip tightened on me, sending another thrill through my body.
His gaze was pleading. They held terror, excitement, lust, adornment, any emotion possible. And they hooked me right in. And they also scared the shit out of me.
"Abbey...I-" He started, but I roughly pushed away from him and got down off the car.
"Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God." I kept muttering over and over as I dunked behind a car and sank to my knees, when Lily called out again.
"You guys? Are you out here?!" She yelled.
"Abbey..." Aiden whispered brokenly and I held up my hand, tears filling my eyes.
"Why?" I croaked.
He was silent until I looked at him. Then he flinched when he saw my tear streaked face.
"Why?" I asked again, a little louder this time.
I could hear Lily walking closer, so I motioned for him to dunk down behind the car with me. She was going to find us eventually but I at least wanted to know why he kissed me before she did.
He dropped down beside of me, wearing a frown on his face, and his eyes searching mine. "Why, what?" He asked. I laughed bitterly.
"Why, Aiden? Why did you kiss me?! Why did we just... what were we doing on that car?"
My buzz was still there, and I guess I'm past the party stage, and now I'm in the sad stage. Because another tear escaped and Aiden flinched once more.
"You...we wanted to. I, I- don't know." Aiden stuttered.
I looked away from him when his eyes held pain from seeing me cry. It's never bothered him before. In fact, he used to laugh when I cried after he pulled some stupid prank.
"Aiden!" I gasped when a bucket off punch was poured over my head.
It was the first party I ever gotten invited to. And Franklin Pierce had invited me. The, Franklin Pierce. He was the most popular guy in school and he, invited, ME!
I was standing by my locker, getting out the things I needed for the next class, when he waltzed up to me.
"Hey, Abbey, right?"
I froze, my mouth slowly parted, and turned at his voice to see him grinning at me.
"Y-yes. I mean, uh, yeah. That's me." I stuttered and he laughed as he put his arm on the next locker beside of mine to support his weight when he leaned towards me.
"I was wondering if you wanted to go to my party, tonight? My mom's throwing it for me since I was promised varsity next year on the basketball team."
