“I’m sorry about his death, Kenna…,” I said sadly and she looked at me in surprise for a second then she forlornly shook her head.
“Oh, no. No…Garion isn’t dead. He’s being held somewhere…and his memory was erased, so he doesn’t remember me,” she said, her tone saturated in grief.
“Wait, what?”
“He isn’t dead,” she repeated softly.
CHAPTER 7
“We have to find him,” I said before even thinking it over. However, we did have to. He wasn’t dead, and she spent fives years mourning over his absence. He was alive, out there somewhere…probably missing her just as much.
How fair was it that they had to stay apart?
“Erin, it isn’t that easy…”
“I figured. But it just isn’t fair that you have to live like this!”
“Life isn’t fair,” Kenna frowned, “And besides, the world is too big to find him.”
“Someone has to know where he is. It isn’t like you have anything else to do. If we try hard enough, and ask the right questions with the right people and get the right amount of help, we can find him,” I nodded.
“Erin, you’re going home tomorrow,” Kenna reminded me.
“I…,” I bit my lip and looked up to the ceiling, “Well, what if I helped look?”
“No,Erin,” Kenna sighed.
“What? Are you seriously going to pass up a chance to find him? There is a chance that we can find him and it isn’t just going to come to us, we have to look for it. Otherwise the chances are next to nothing,” I persuaded.
“Even if we did find him, his memory is gone,” she frowned.
“And you’re sure he hasn’t gained it back in five years? You can be so positive about it that you won’t even try?”
“I’ve tried!”
“Did you find him?”
“No, obviously.”
“Well, then you’re going to have to try again,” I said and she looked at me in disbelief.
“Erin, you don’t know what you’re getting into,” she warned me, “Asmodeus is after me; if given the chance, he will kill you.”
“No worse than what he’d do to you. Kenna, we can find him. I’ve been tracking people my entire life, I’ve tracked down my cousins countless times; I can help. Come on, Kenna. We can do this!” I grabbed her arm, feeling confident and sure that we could save him.
“Erin…,” she looked like she was having a lot of trouble trying to tell me no. She shook her head slowly, her eyes revealing how desperate she was, and she crossed her arms over her chest.
