In all of this time, I virtually tipped over backwards into the ocean and died in a metamorphic sense. Kenna kicked Josh off and rolled over and playfully growled and ran around him a few times before launching onto his back and sending them both flying to the ground.
CHAPTER 19
I pulled pup from by my feet and into my arms and watched them play fight; Josheventually pinned her again and she howled, making me shiver and tremble from the deep bellow. Her form twisted and became human and she blew a raspberry at Josh, “You imp!”
He smiled a very wolfie smile that looked ridiculous on his large threatening form and became a human and stood tall, “Imps are usually short…”
Kenna hopped to her feet and hissed up at him, “I can chop you down to your knees!”
“That’s a little violent don’t you think?” Josh smiled and she threw her hands up.
“I know!” she gave an exasperated sigh and turned to me and gave a wicked smirk. “Hello Erin!”
I found myself blinking then my heart rate sped up, “No, you leave me out of this!”
She gave a thoughtful sigh and laughed,“If you wanted to be left out of it, go home!”
“Funny,” I frowned and she ran at me. I picked up from the ocean and broke into a run; instinct ran me until she seized my arm and brought me down in a tackle. “Kenna!”
She wrapped her arms around me and we rose to an unsteady stand, “Surrender Josh!”
“We were in war?”
“You won!”
“So you admit it?” he grinned.
“No! Surrender or else Erin gets it!” Kenna mused.
“Wait, I agreed to not being involved!”
“No one agreed with you. Sorry,”Kenna laughed and pointed an accusing finger to her old friend. “Lay down your arms!”
“On what?” he smirked, “And I have nothing to lose, silly Kenna. Must you realize that you’re holding your best friend hostage? I’m a free man with nothing holding me back. Unlike you.”
“I’m surely glad I’m not a free man!” Kenna scoffed, “Besides, you surely wouldn’t want…uh…Erin to face an ultimate sacrifice!”
I was having a difficult time keeping up.
“What would this be?” Josh’s smile only seemed to grow.
“I’ll take her to the city of Tugger!” Kenna countered in such a tone that revealed her satisfaction with her retort.
This actually seemed to make Josh dither long enough to allow Kenna to release me and pounce on him, sending them both floundering to the fouled ground of the terrain. Kenna pushed herself up into a sitting position and laughed hysterically, “So it’s true!”
Joshscowled and shoved her off himself, “What’s true?”
I was wondering the same thing.
“Oh, you know,” Kenna shrugged and giggled, spinning artfully to her feet, “Shall we get a go on it then?”
“Where to?” I questioned and Kenna seemed to carefully analyze all of our options. I was guessing that they weren’t so varied.
“Well, there is that cabin that is slightly closer to Erin’s village. About two hours away. Garion and I had harbored there often enough. There could be clues there.”
