Tears pricked my eyes, “Drake…do you have any clue? Do you know how many times you and Al disappeared for months at a time when on a hunt? We didn’t know if you were dead or alive…but we gave you the benefit of the doubt. Do the same now. Please, Drake.”

He looked like he was prepared to start yelling again but instead of yelling he took a deep breath and looked past me, “She’s a Wolf Loved, you say?”

“Yes,” I felt a flicker of hope. I knew he had to have heard about Wolf Loveds….maybe.

“Asmodeus is after her…and I’m assuming he knows of you by now too,” his body language stiffened at his own words, “I’ll stay…”

CHAPTER 23

A mixture of disbelief and excitement pervaded me so fully that an overjoyed squeal flew from my lips and my arms wrapped themselves around my cousin’s neck, “Oh, thank you! Thank you, Drake!”

He grumbled and responded by pushing me back. He never liked physical contact that didn’t involve driving a dagger through the heart of a beast…and I didn’t intend on letting him have pleasure of that contact with anyone of this group anytime soon.

Taking his arm, despite his tension and stiffness, I led him back to the cabin though I was sure much of his movement was unwilling.

Al came out the door with a shocked expression in his discolored eyes and he starred at Drake with a hint of suspicion, “You’re staying?”

“Only for the reasons that you chose to stay,” Drake always sounded as if he were talking to a colleague. Not his cousin or family. I doubt he even realized he had friends and people who loved him. His only commitment was his job.

Al nodded and I became suddenly antsy to see Kenna and Josh again only because I wanted proof that Al hadn’t slaughtered them after I ran out after Drake. To mute this fear, I released my hold on Drake and hurried inside the cabin.

Both Kenna and Josh were unharmed. Baffled, but unharmed.

“Drake is going to help,” I sounded breathless, happy, carefree. Moments ago I was terrified of seeing the both of them. Now I couldn’t be happier.

Kenna smiled softly, not looking as happy as I felt, “So I heard.”

I frowned, “I’m sorry…I always make things harder than they need to be and…”

Kenna shook her head, still looking bothered, “Why didn’t you tell us, Erin?”

            “I didn’t think it mattered so much…”

“Your family was…they were…?” tears filled her eyes, “If I had known I would’ve…”

“It was four years ago…there was nothing you could’ve done…,” I didn’t like talking about it. I could already see my sisters, Ava and Clair…

Ava with her thick curls and large doe eyes, always so trusting, but she was so strong. She was thicker than I was but it was all muscle. She would’ve made Drake run for his money, I just knew it. She had determination and passion but she was sweet and humble.

Claire was sensitive with a sharp wit. People underestimated her cleverness because of her sun kissed hair and icicle blue eyes. Her love for every living being around her was never ending and she inherited the power of my mom…being a sorceress. She was good at it. She was charismatic and Daddy’s Girl. She would’ve made Sorie seem unpopular.
