Layler's POV.It is 5pm and I am currently sitting on the couch watching some cartoons, Tom and Jerry.
I am wearing blue jean shorts, long white socks, sleepers and an oversized white shirt.Boredom is quite the killer, I've settled in pretty well, I haven't found my mother yet because every time I go to the church she isn't around. I've never seen her ever before just a bunch of pictures that nena had around the house but even those pictures are pretty old considering the fact that my nena last saw my mom when she was 17.
I video chat with my family once in every two weeks. Alvaro was supposed to come see me every month but he hasn't managed to.
I last spoke to Bauti the last time I saw him at the hood, I didn't reply to the video clip he sent me because that would just cause unnecessary feelings to arise so I decided to keep quiet.Andy's birthday is coming up next week so I'll just get him a little gift and send it to him. I do that every year, it's mine and Andy's thing.
Bauti always had to look after Andy so most of the time he would drop him off at my house then my nena would look after him while Bauti went out to make me money.Business operations this side are quite good, Mike has done 6 robberies already and at this point there is a new guy Caleb Parker from Britain and in a few days’ time I will also part-take in taking his diamonds, he smuggles diamonds into Nigeria and then he sells them for billions. At first I was worried that it could have been Caleb, my so called cousin but then I realized that Caleb is a snobby Lawyer who lives in America so this job will be done neatly...I am actually quite excited.
I look to the table where my phone is and I take it and I see that I got a text from Alvaro.
Alvaro: Andy passed away, Bauti is not taking it well, contact me ASAP.
I drop my phone and then I lean back on the couch.Andy died! What happened to him? Was he sick? I take my laptop and click on Skype and then I contact Alvaro ASAP.
"Hey" He says and by the looks of it he is chilling in his kitchen.
"Took you long enough! What happened? Where is Bauti? And Jane? How is she?"
"Bauti is upstairs sleeping, we just got back from the hospital an hour ago…you need to come back Layler or else Bauti is next to go to the grave"
"Not yet I haven't found my mom, give me till next year then I will come back okay?"
"Andy is not Bauti's son...nor is he Jane's"
"Uhh?"
"Jane lost her child long ago, she wanted to keep Bauti so she bought a baby"
That sick bitch! I knew she really had it for Bauti but to lie and buy a baby? No wonder Bauti is losing it.
"Oh my...What happened to Andy anyway? Was he sick?"
"He got shot at the hood, Bauti blames himself"
"But how?"
"Long story short, it was battle of the gangs, shots were flying across the room and Bauti was trying to exit then Andy got shot"
"But what was he doing at the hood with Andy? He knows that it's not safe!"
"He has gone back to excessive drinking. He drove all the way to the hood drunk with Andy in the car, before Andy got shot, Bauti fired a shot, it was aimed at him but because of his drunken state he used Andy as a shield"
"What?!"
"See? So please come back he needs you at this point"
"I can't Alvaro okay?" And with that I log off immediately.
Tears are flowing down my face. I wish I could be there for Bauti but I cannot, not until I've found my mother. I can only imagine what he is going through.
"Layler are you okay?" Jess asks the minute she walks in.
"It's Bauti"
I've told Jess all about me and Bauti and how I ended up pregnant with Jerry's child and why exactly I came to Africa.
"What's wrong?"
"His son got shot last night and he is dead"
She doesn't say much but rather she walks up to me, sits next to me on the couch and then she gives me a warm hug.
Jess has become more like a friend to me, and we talk about almost everything. Her comforting me right now really lifts a lot of weight and guilt off me.
If I didn't leave, Bauti wouldn't have went back to drinking excessively and that means he would have been in the right mind and not have taken Andy to the hood.
