Chapter 44.

I barely got any sleep last night, mostly because I kept seeing dead rats around the room.

I get up and I find that Letty has gone for breakfast. I get out of the bed and then I open the curtains, it is still raining, heavily even.
I put on the guest gown then I head downstairs.

Everyone is seated at the table having breakfast while engaged in different conversations...there is an open seat right next to Layler, on her left Jerry is seated there then I head on and I sit on her right.

I fix for myself cornflakes and milk, although I am not really eating a thing.

"Yes dear, your in law does not disappoint I will surely-" nena says although she gets interrupted by Layler.

"In law?" She asks.

"Uhmmm, I am soon getting married to your mother Mill-Layler" My uncle tries to explain but Layler drops her spoon into her bowl of fruits and then she places her left hand on her chest and then she starts to laugh. Okaaaaay.

"What now? You marry spirits too? My mother is dead...thanks to you, I know she would rather go to hell than marry you"

"Layler" nena says.

"What has gotten into you?" The uncle Luke asks and she points at Jerry and me.

"Excuses for nephews, how can you allow your uncle to marry the dead?!"

"It is done in other countries" My uncle says calmly, he knows that if he raises his voice then his temper might spiral out of control.

Layler stands up, takes her car keys and then she gets out.
"Where are you going? It is still stormy out there" Alexis says as she follows behind her sister, oh her cousin and nena looks upset.

"Let me go check what is for dinner tonight" She says as she walks out, Alex, Kate, Diana and Luke walk out as well.

"We are staying again? We do not even have clothes!" I say.

"For a Lawyer you sure are slow brother, our dear uncle here knew about the weather...so he packed for us all in advance, three more days to go" Jerry says looking all disinterested.

"Why exactly did you have to drag me into this?" I start to raise my voice.
Being in the same house with Layler makes me feel uneasy, the girl surely has an evil DNA all over her, she isn't scared to take risks, and she knows what she wants.

She wants me to die a slow painful death for a mistake that occurred. Layler wasn't supposed to be there, she was supposed to be in America not Lagos, now she lost her child because of me.

The girl is out to get me at all costs, I mean she watched me sleep all night and she had carrots in her invincible pockets and a dead rat...I feel like I will soon share the same fate as the rat.

"Do not question me Caleb!" My uncle says.

"You could have at least given us a heads up" Jerry says.

My uncle gives us a look that clearly tells us to keep quiet or else this weather will be the least of our problems.

After some time I head upstairs, take a bath and then I go out to Alex's studio.
When I get there I find him and Jerry chilling on the couch.

"Hey" I say as I walk in, Jerry nods and Alex does the same.

"Am I interrupting anything?" I ask.

"Nope. We were just talking about my dearest sister"

"You mean cousin?" Jerry corrects.

"You are the one to correct me" Alex says and Jerry furrows his eyebrow.

"You two acted like you guys never met the day when she came back from the hospital...I gotta say I was tempted to blurt out that you were her date at my match" Alex says with a laugh.

"What match?" I ask.

"Oh he didn't tell you dawg? Jerry came to my match with Layler the other time, that is when I met him...I honestly thought you were her boyfriend...much to my shockedment if that is even a word...you are my cousin's fiancé" He laughs as he takes a sip of his coffee.

"Oh do not tell Diana, she might make a big deal out of it"

"Why though? I mean it is clear Layler has an underground boyfie...apparently she was pregnant then she lost the baby when she got shot back in Africa"

Jerry makes a "uhmmmm" sound and all the attention reverts to him.

"What is up dude?" Alex asks casually.

"Nothing I have to go" And with that he leaves.
Okay that turned weird real quick.

"Oh well what have you been working on?" I ask Alex.

"New track...wanna hear the sick beat...I know lawyers are a bore but hey"
