Song: Revenge-from the movie Braveheart
As I watched Shane take out each of his guns, all revolvers, and check to make sure they were in working order I stuffed another chocolate in my mouth and turned down the volume on Jersey Shore. "So I've come with you this far, despite the fact that you might be a kidnapping, murdering..."
"I thought we already established that it's my job to protect you," he glanced back at me, blue-green eyes alert despite the time.
"Well, I still don't know exactly where you're taking me, why you think Adrian is that wolf-creature, and why it would want to kill me...so I think I can still question your motives."
Sighing, Shane turned around. Taking a polishing cloth and one of his knives, sat down to clean it while he talked, "Your little boyfriend, Adrian, is a creature of the night. A werewolf. The reason why he came to live with you, and why he wants to kill you, is complicated."
Shane took a breath to glare at me, but I my mouth shut. "You see if werewolves have no real natural predator, than they would roam free killing, infecting, and eating innocent people...not good. So, as nature demanded, a predator arose. There was only one of these predators every hundred years or so, but they are effective enough that they was no need for more. Still, these predators are valuable, because before they are trained they are vulnerable to attack by the werewolves." Shane looked up at me with a smoldering expression, "that's where you come in."
"Woah, woah," I put up my hands. "So, in all this time werewolves have been around, no one has come up with a decent way to kill them?"
Shane smirked, "oh we have, but having one of you around is a huge help," he gestured to me with his cleaning cloth.
"Oh hell no, I am not some werewolf hunting nightmare, that's for legends."
"You, me, your entire family, almost everyone in Clan Macdonald is a legend so you say."
"I'm sorry...clan what what now?"
Shane grinned, "you are not Italian, you're scottish."
"What does this have to do with werewolves?" I frowned, only more confused
He grinned again, "Romans once tried to take over the British Isles, hundreds of years ago. And after long battles with the Celtic people who lived in the northern part of the island-Scotland-and the construction of a wall just to keep the scary Celts out, the Romans won. They enslaved the Celts...this was about the time when Roman warriors who had gone mad with bloodlust started sprouting hair and eating their own people."
The lights in the room seemed to dim, as if they were afraid of the story, but Shane continued his tale, "By the Celtic people were finally free of the Romans, the disease was pretty prominant in the army. Kind of ironic how one of the ancient symbols of Rome is the wolf."
"So," I said, picking up on what he was going to say. "The Celts have become the enemy of the werewolf, and of Rome."
He nodded, "your family clan especially."
"So are we going to Scotland?" I asked, images of bagpipes and elves invading my mind.
"Yes. The clan, me included, need your help to keep the werewolves in check...but do you think you have the guts to kill Adrian if it comes down to it?"
I nodded, "I love him, Shane, and for that I do not want to see his will held against him in this curse."
Shane nodded, "I think that is true love."
I knew that if I let my mind wander to Adrian I would cry, so I changed the subject. "So, you're not a kilt wearing, ginger, how are you Scottish?"
Shane rolled his eyes, "Being Scottish is not about being ginger or blond or talking with that accent all teenage girls seem to love." He paused as if to really think about it, "being Scottish is being hot tempered, a heavyweight drinker, and guerilla warfaring heathen who scares the hell out of anything that they come into contact with. The Macdonald clan, like most, is friendly but fierce, they love their family and will fight to the death in defense of them."
"Doesn't sound like me," I muttered.
Shane smirked, "did I mention that most are very stubborn?"
"Shut up." I stared at the floor, "I grew up thinking I was Italian and Irish...to have that taken from me..."
"I never said you weren't either of those, Princess, your Scottish side just happens to shine a little bright than the side with werewolf blood in it."
"So I'll be killing my own kind as well as the guy I love."
"...yes."
