~~~Two Months Later~~~
Five attempts on my life, six meetings with political leaders who are supportive of our cause, four hours a day seven days a week of intense training to defend myself against werewolves, three hunting trips and no sightings of Adrian.
This was my life now.
Tying my hair up with a plaid ribbon I sighed and inspected myself in the mirror. I looked older now, my hair was longer, my muscles were toned and I had a nice tan. My face was thinner though and my eyes showed my exaustion. There was a huge weight on my shoulders now that I was supposed to lead these people against the werewolves and protect the rest of the world from their disease.
Shaking my head I left my room and trotted downstairs for dinner. Sitting in the dinning hall, starting the drinking early, was Shane. Plates were set out but no one else was here yet so he sat in his usually chair with a glass of whiskey in front of him. Even with his hair hanging in his face I could see the red stratch that ran down his cheek from when he tackled a werewolf that was comming for me. If I hadn't shot the werewolf it would've bitten him, and afterwards I yelled at him for thinking I couldn't defend myself.
Now he was upset with me, and drinking to show it.
Kissing the top of his head I pulled the drink out of his hands. Growling he stood up and flopped his arms over my shoulders, staring at me, "Why can't you be more careful Bella? I refuse to loooseee...." he trailed off, his head lolling so that his forehead rested on mine.
"You won't," I smiled, pushing him into his chair as the others walked in. Since Shane seemed unable to do anything but sit there and stare into space I filled his plate with food and made him eat.
My parents smiled at us, but I could tell that they were just as worried as Shane. It had been a close call.
My mind wandered back, only hours earlier Shane, me, and another guy Alec who had been helping train me were in the wet, mossy woods...alone, and surrounded.
Three on three. We stood back to back, revolvers out and aimed at the three snarling, pitch black beasts the size of large horses.
One lunged for Alec, and though he shot it it kept coming, jaws on his throat before I put my bullet through its eye. Alec drowned almost immediately in his own blood through the punctures in his throat and there was nothing we could do.
Chaos erupted, the other two ran at me, recognizing me as the target. Turning I ran, rounds going off behind me from Shane. I could feel the hot breath and smell the blood on the werewolf behind me, he was catching up. Seeing a boulder I ran straight up it, flipped, and landed behind the wolf.
It spun on its heels toward me and was tackled by Shane, it managed to slice his face before I shot it in the chest. Running over I pushed the mass of black, diseased fur off of Shane.
He was shaken, but alive.
