5 | MURPHY

The first thing Raina was greeted by when she woke up was the sun shinning down on her. The thin material of the tents wasn't enough to block out the orange and yellow rays as dawn arrived. (Which wasn't that much of a surprise, considering it was made of parachutes from the drop ship.) However, it was still strange since she woke up, expecting to be on a stiff mattress and only the Ark's artificial lighting. Raina took a second to remind herself she wasn't on the Ark anymore, but on Earth.

The Kane reluctantly rose to her feet after making sure she was fully awake before she opened up her tent flap, luckily, most of the hundred still were asleep or in their tents, minus the few that were wondering idly around their claimed camp so Raina saw no better opportunity than to head to the small water fall she found the night before without being noticed.

The stream wasn't too far and Raina was still in ear shot range of the camp. She kneeled down at the water and cupped her hands together, then dipped them down into the water and scooped it up. It was lukewarm but nonetheless, it was something. Raina started to go for another drink when a twig snapped and her head shot up instinctively. Nobody seemed to have followed her, so what the hell was that? Her eyes scanned the bushes and trees, expecting for some kind of movement but alas there was none. Assuming it was just her paranoid mind, Raina turned back around to the water but she saw another reflection behind her and spun around.

"Murphy." She sighed of relief. He stood above her, hands shoved in his pockets and a closed smile.

"What? Did you think I was a two headed bunny or something?" He scoffed.

"Something like that."

She turned her back to him, expecting him to head in the other direction to pee but heard twigs crunching beneath his shoes as he walked towards the stream before he kneeled down beside her. Raina watched closely as he did the same hand scoop she did and took a drink.

He met her stare. "What? Am I not allowed to have water or something?"

"What?" Raina blinked, realizing she was staring too long. She looked away. "No, no. Sorry."

Murphy scoffed. "Weirdo." He muttered under his breath. Raina shot a glare at him.

"I am not weird, Murphy."

"Are too." He shot back, a taunting smirk on his face. Raina hit his arm, not hard like she could've but enough that he rubbed the spot where she punched him and pouted. "Wow, so she's weird and crazy."

Raina scoffed. "You're one to talk, you little arsonist."

"Arsonist, huh?" Murphy beamed, amused she was aware of how he got here. "I guess being Kane's precious little princess means you know everything."

"Not everything," She answered. "I just know what you did. I don't know why you did it." Raina stood up, starting to turn around but she stopped midway and turned back to him. She leaned back down and whispered in his ear, "But either way, I don't blame you." With that, she walked off and left a smiling Murphy.

By now, most of the hundred were awake. Raina spotted Wells away from the camp and headed in his direction but halted when she saw he was dumping dirt two fairly big holes and then it clicked, — he was burying the two kids that died in the landing.
