'Mila,' a sweet voice calls my name. It sounds raspy, as if it just woke up. I start to get aware of skin to skin contact, partly muted by clothing, and my craving for it. I hum in response to the voice. 'Are you hungry?'
'Starving.'
'Do you want to get some food?' the voice asks. I nod and finally open my eyes. I am in Lay's arms. 'You're cute when you sleep.' A smile spreads on my face.
'Were you watching me sleep? That's kind of creepy,' I say and move a bit so I can see him better.
'I was having an internal discussion about waking you up or not.'
'You feel so familiar,' I suddenly say, not really noticing it until his face gets a bit less light.
'So you feel it too,' he says.
'I guess.' For some reason we both know what we're talking about. It feels like a connection. Like we were meant to meet.
'Lets keep it from the others until we figure out what this is. We can't have more worries right now,' he suggest. I agree, nodding at him. 'Okay, now let's get breakfast.'
We head downstairs and have breakfast in silence. I checked the clock and realized it's awfully early, but because of my strange sleeping schedule I don't feel tired. We went to sleep around four pm, so waking up around four am is still twelve hours of sleep. It's this early, but we hear footsteps come down the stairs. It's Chanyeol, holding a helmet.
'Ah, you're finally out of your room. Good. Get ready, I have to show you something as fast as possible,' he says and walks outside. Lay doesn't seem confused, at least not as much as me.
'You should go with him. I think I know what's wrong,' he tells me and urges me to get dressed. Outside, Chanyeol is waiting for me, leaning on a motorcycle that I don't recognize. Is it his? Probably.
'Hop on,' he tells me. I shake my head and grab my own motorcycle. We move faster that way.
'Lead the way.' It's five am by now, but it's awfully dark. I don't like the feeling it's giving me. The streets are empty, obviously, the whole city is dead. We get close to the edge of Busan and Chanyeol stops and points. At the end of the road is the army. They're setting up a barricade.
'They're making a fence around Busan.'
Realization about the situation is starting to get through me. If they close off Busan, the biggest group of people who have the 7th sense in Korea will be trapped, meaning that they can easily kill everyone. No one has to know why. They could say it's quarantine for some ugly disease and exterminate all of us.
'Busan is in danger,' I blur out.
'Do you see the guy all the way on the right?' Chanyol asks and points at the right of the barricade. There's a guy floating over the ground, but he appears to be walking normally. Why is he using his powers so recklessly? 'That's Kris. He used to be with us, but he betrayed us and joined the army.'
'Are you sure about that? Isn't he just brainwashed or something?' Chanyeol shakes his head.
'No, he was always skeptical about a group of people like us. Kind of like you, but worse.'
'What do you mean?'
'Well, you said that us being together like this is suicide.'
'I still think that, because it is suicide.' He frowns.
'So why do you let us stay in your house?'
'Because you have nowhere to go and being out there as a group is much more dangerous than staying inside.' A light chuckle leaves his mouth.
'You like us.'
'What? Do you think I'll be afraid to admit that I like you guys? You are like brothers to me. I love having you around. Aside from my brother, I've never trusted anyone. It's nice to trust people.'
'So what do you think about Lay?' Chanyeol asks after a few seconds of silence.
'He-' I cut myself off before I can say something stupid, 'he seems like a good person.'
'You know you can't lie to me. I know everything about everyone,' Chanyeol says as we both grab our helmets again.
'I'll tell you later. When we aren't in plain sight of the army,' I tell him, and with that we drive off.We just parked our motorcycles when a stressed out Baekhyun runs outside and starts to urge us to get inside.
'Where the hell have you guys been?' Baekhyun yells at us, pulling and pushing us inside.
'Calm down Baekhyun, what's going on?' I ask him a bit frustrated by all the pulling and pushing.
'Tao and Luhan are here,' he says. Suddenly, Chanyeol sprints inside. I run after him and we see everyone sitting on the couches and the floor and two men at the kitchen table. You could cut the tension with a blunt knife. Hell, you could touch it if you want to. I quickly realize that we are missing people. My brother being one of them, which can't mean anything good.
'Who are you and what are you doing in my house,' I bluntly ask the two strangers sitting at the kitchen table.
'We want to talk to you,' one of them says. He is oddly familiar. Wait, he is the person D.O. attacked at the market. Luhan.
'Why would that be?' I ask him, crossing my arms in front of me.
'That would be because you seem to be very strong and we can't have you walking around like this,' the other says. Than that must be Tao.
'So?'
'So we're taking you with us.'
'And why would I go with you?'
'Because we have your lover and your brother.' A question mark floats above my head in neon lights.
'Lover?' Luhan looks at Tao confused and Tao looks from Luhan to me.
'Yes?' he says carefully. In the back, Chen is laughing like crazy.
'Lover! They think he's her lover! He comforted her once and they think he's her lover!' he cries out laughing. Baekhyun seems to see the fun in it too and laughs along, but the others aren't quite as fond on the situation.
'He's not your lover?' Luhan asks confused.
'No, why would you think that?' I ask him with a sarcastic undertone playing in my voice.
'The marking on the back of your left hand,' he says. I look at the marking. It looks like some kind of maze. It dates back to the matching system that once was used. When you were in the womb, they would scan you and they were able to match you with your perfect partner. They'd put an one-of-a-kind marking on you so that you could find your "soulmate."
However, people started to search for their soulmate more than they should and the quality of life went down drastically, meaning that people got depressed if they didn't find their soulmate before their thirties. Me and my brother are one of the last generations that still has the markings because they kept doing it a bit longer in Busan than in other places.
'He has the same marking?' I ask. 'I didn't know.' Some part of me doesn't really care, but a voice in my head is screaming, crying, begging me to find him. The EXO boys stare at me in disbelieve. I can feel their eyes stab my back like daggers. Blood is seeping through my clothes and my back gets damp. Sweat. I am panicking slightly. My brother, and apparently my soulmate, have been captured. I have to help them.
'So, do we still need to drag you or will you come with us?' Luhan asks. It's quite obvious that he is in charge here. Tao seems to hide behind Luhan's through exterior.
'I'll go with you,' I say and the three of us stand up.
'No!' Beakhyun yells to object, but I give him a reassuring look.
'I'll be back before you know it,' I tell them.
'I wouldn't be to sure about that,' Tao says and grabs my arm to lead me away. My friends, brothers, stand in the living room. Frozen. They want to do something, but they know they can't. It would kill both my brother and one of their friends.
