As an immortal elf, I find that time passes quickly in comparison to how it appears to pass to other races of this world. Yet, as quickly as it may seem to pass, it is easy for me to remember every moment of it. The reason for this would be that I am a wizard, or a magic user if you will, and 413 years ago, I created the Amulet of Lúmë ar Parma, or time and books. The device allows me to through contact, search through all of my memories, giving me a large spell log. and knowledge of all histories, and most languages. it is this device that will bring much turmoil and strife to the Land of Quendelie ar Apanónar.(Elves and Men, as the races)However, to explain this device's calamities, I must first go back to its creation.
Four hundred and Sixteen years ago, I awoke on a sunny afternoon, on the 27th of February, which in the northern realm of the Land of Quendelie ar Apanónar, is a rather warm time period of each solar revolution, which is known as a coranar, or a year. Each year lasts approximately 396 days, or Area(Said R-E-A, not area), The months are January, February, March, April, May, Mornie, June, July, August, September, October, November, and December. According to the counsel, they cut a little more than an hour off of each day of the year, making around 670 hours total, they divided that into days and named it the month of mornie, or the month of darkness. The month has 16.08 days, and was the month in which the majority of wizard adepts graduated, after returning from their quest. They would then spend 12 of the 16 days fasting, and studying spells. on the 15th day, the wizard adept chose their avocation, and was then sent out of the academy. to do their challenge. Their challenge was a trial, involving life or death stakes, in which the wizard adept had to use their magic, their wits, and their weaponry, in the trial. if they were successful in their trial, then they would be promoted to a Wizard Scholar, or Sairon istyar. If they failed, then they were dead, or banished. It was a system that had been in place since long before I was born, and I am 8,675 years old. However, if you look at the specific wording in my dictation of this chronicle, you will see that I said most wizards graduate in the month of Mornie. I graduated in February. February 13th to be exact. This meant that it had been 14 days since I graduated. Which meant that my trial was today. The problem was, however, that I had elected not to advocate, or chose a specific school of avocation. I wanted to be a master at every field of wizardry, and become a Master Wizard. Yes, I was rather overconfident in those days, which was why I was graduating so early. I wanted to get a jump on the wizard academy, so I went to a private teacher. A private teacher who happened to be a Wizard on the counsel. My teacher's name was Herulepilin, or Lord of the Arrow. Herulepilin was most of the northern lands favorite counselor, because he was a Master Wizard, who was humorous, and kind. He was hated by almost every Council member, because of his apparent lack of ability to take anything seriously, and he would often do serendipitous and even illogical things, based on a spur of the moment decision. The only reason the council allowed him to remain on the council, was because they feared him. He was the most powerful wizard known, by virtue of the standard tests at the time.
When I awoke, I was both excited and terrified, but you would not have known it by looking at me. I strove to fulfill a vow of emotional control, and I did it very well. Granted I used magic, but still, I did very well at it. Regardless, Though you could not tell it, it was true. I immediately ran downstairs, to see if Herulepilin was up. I got down to the bottom of the stairs, and turned around and sure enough, there was my master... drunk and unconscious lying on the Kitchen table. I walked over to him and said "envinyatarya sogannen " which is a spell for healing drunkenness. He stood up quickly and tripped over the chair he was sitting in
"Saironelloistya, What have I told you about using spells on me!" He demanded
"To only do it if it is Life or Death" I responded, as we had this conversation around once per week.
"Then why did you do it! This situation is in no way Life or Death!" He grunted, picking himself up off the floor.
"Actually it is indeed life or death," I replied "I have my trial today"
The color blanched from his face, and he sat down in a chair, as I brought him over the tea I had been preparing during our argument, knowing he would need it. He accepted it with a "thanks," and muttered something about "not another one"
I was actually his 38th apprentice, of which 22 had been successful in defeating their trial. He was mentally broken about the other 16 failed adepts, who had all been either Necromancers, or hydromancers. He had only trained two general wizards, himself and me, but I thought that he would be competent. As it turned out my training had been much more difficult than most adepts because while they only had to study their avocation, I had to study all of them. The benefit of it all was that I could use the powers of every avocation, instead of being limited to just one. This meant that my trial would be more difficult too because each trial was suited to your evocation, so I would have to do all aspects of the main avocations in my trial. But first, I wanted breakfast.
Hurrying, I darted to and fro across the kitchen, grabbing eggs, bacon, churned milk, a cheese wheel, a cheese knife, and sea salt from the Duvenaearon, or southern sea. I gathered two pans, 3 large spoons, and a medium bowl. Putting 6 eggs into the medium bowl, I set the spoon to stir them until they were well beaten, and the eggs and yolks were combined. The I cut the bacon into small pieces, and fried it in the first pan, until it was crispy, but not completely cooked. I cut the cheese into thin, long pieces. then I poured the bacon into the eggs and stirred it with the second spoon, and poured that into the second pan. Finally, I sprinkled some crushed salt into the eggs and bacon, and layered it with a gracious helping of cheese. Putting it in the quickly lit fire, I used pyromancy to control the flames to an even heat, until the eggs were cooked all the way through, and the cheese was melted. teleporting it out of the fire, I set it on a stone counter and cut it into cake slice sized pieces, placing two onto each of the plates that I quickly set aside for my master, and myself. Spawning two forks and two knives, I set them all down on the table, and sat down. My master looked at me, with mild amusement, and mildly impressed, but the second one was not at me. I turned around and realized that the entire room was a mess. After picking up an eggshell off the table and tossing it at me, which I teleported out the window, Herulepilin took a bite of his food, and sighed.
"So then, today is the day that you must prove yourself to the counsel. As you know, I will be there, but not as your friend or your mentor, but as your examiner. I have trained you to the best of my ability, and you have been a studious adept, but I would not be honest if I did not warn you of your odds of failure. You can do this, but the effort in itself may kill you, You, unlike your friends Aranellevanima (Princess the Fair) and Saironelloletoron (Wizard of the brother) will have to complete 8 challenges, in comparison to their 1. You will have 1 hour to complete each and if you fail, you will be banished from the kingdom, or executed. I wish you not luck, but knowledge, as it will be a road to follow when all other paths have failed. But do not rely on it last, but first, for unless you think about your attack first, it will amount to nothing, for you have not found the weaknesses of your enemy. Be strong and wise my friend, for if you succeed, I shall no longer be your master, but your leader. If you are banished, I would ask that you do not bear ill will to the wizards of this order. For while, I may not like the decision of this order, I will be forced to defend it, of my own will."
I sat in silence for a moment, then I slowly leaned forward and replied "Master, If I fail and am banished then, I will still count myself lucky, for I was able to taught by the greatest wizard in the world. You have taught me most of what I know, although throwing me in the river does not count as teaching me to swim, and I will always be grateful for what I have been taught. If I am forced to leave, then I will bear in mind, that it was my decision that led to my failure, not the decision of the counsel. If my friends succeed, then the Gods have blessed me enough for one day. And if. No not if, when I succeed I will hope that instead of being my leader, you will elect to be my friend."
Herulepilin smiled, he stood up and walked over and knelt in front of me, and he said "I have been and always shall be, your friend. Though it may be hard, I have always taken you to be a man of great faith. Faithless is he that turns away when the road darkens. This shall be the last order I give you, do not turn away, and do not give up. It is better to die courageously, than to live a coward. I do not have the gift of foresight, but I shall think that you will succeed, in your trials and your Life and adventures as a Sairon Istyar. I must leave now to prepare for your trials, but take this advice before I go, hope still remains, while the fellowship is true." Standing up he walked over to the door opened it, and exited.
