As my eyes cleared coming through the portal, I noticed that I was in a tunnel, leading to a portcullis made of enchanted mithril, making it nearly unbreakable. The tunnel, on the other hand, was made of common iron, cast over with a weak spell of protection. As I walked towards the portcullis, I saw on each wall there were four banners, made of a satin like fabric, of red, with a skull on it. This was a symbol of the death of the old life, and the starting of the new. These were placed approximately 1 cubit apart and were approximately 4 cubits from the door. As I reached the door, I nodded to the guard on the left side of the tunnel, who pulled a switch. The Portcullis began to rise, and I walked out underneath it. With a crash, it slammed shut behind me, barring my way out.
Looking around, I was in a room that looked like a cemetery, placed on a checkers board. There were two towers, with one wizard in the opposite. As I climbed the tower, I began to contemplate my strategy. This challenge clearly had to be a challenge of Necromancy, but controlling the actions of the undead to play chess was a rare challenge indeed. Regardless, as I reached the top of the tower, I opened a conversation wormhole to my left. I gave my opponent the first move, after saying daeevaamarth, drego meaning shadow of death, flee. The ground began to shake, and the dead on my side arose. They were obedient, and still under my command. My opponent muttered a spell of his own, and his dead meandered out of the graves individually. We began, with him as black and me as purple.
Starting out with knights like I always do, I moved them to the central first move positions and filled in with pawns.. his first four moves were all pawn moves, then the left rook to its farthest forwards, on the left middle of the board. When I took that out with a knight, He then went farthest forwards with the opposite rook, and then I countered with my opposite knight. Following his release of one bishop, and my return of my knights, I watched as he tried to move a pawn, and it fell over dead, and he had to reanimate it. He was getting nervous and losing control. I continued by moving my left knight out to middle left, as from its original location. he countered with his pawn, his pawn was now at a diagonal to my knight. looking at my board, I quickly moved my knight back. He then moved his pawn forward again, and I took it out with one of my pawns. He then tried to move his knight to the front middle, but the knight died again. He had one more death and he was disqualified. Moving my knight to front middle from its point of origin, I watched as he moved his farthest left pawn forwards two spaces. I then moved my other knight to its right middle, so my knights were two spaces apart. He countered with his queen, taking a pawn out and putting my king in check, I countered with my king, taking his queen, and then my concentration slipped and one of my pawns died. Reanimating it, I now had one strike, while he had two. He moved his bishop out, taking out the pawn in front of one of my rooks. I proceeded to exterminate his bishop with said rook, and he then moved his other bishop out to in front of my left knight. I took out that bishop with my pawn, which then died. We were now two and two, the next death was the final one. Moving my other middle pawn forward two, he then killed my pawn in a pawn for pawn exchange leaving us each with a dead pawn. His next move was his last because his pawn had fallen over on the right second in.I had won my challenge of Necromancy! As we said our farewells through the communication portal, a new portal opened up behind me and him, and we entered our portals
. . .
As I walked through the portal, I was in a room with a man who was clearly not a wizard, due to his multicolored ratty clothes, and the fact he was being held hostage by the Order. Noticing the small size of the room, I determined that this must be a Trial of either Divination or Enchantment. I watched as a piece of parchment fell out of a hole in the wall, that then closed up behind it. I walked over and picked it up because it clearly had something to do with my challenge. On it was the questions, Name, Age, Date Of Birth, and Kingdom. As I looked at the man, I realized that I would have to use Divination to answer these questions. I realized that because he opened his mouth and showed me that he had no tongue. I chanted "oltohande" meaning knowledge grow and began to meditate. I now had full access to his memories but I had to sift through them determining which ones held the answers to the questions. I ran across his age first by accident, finding out he was of the age of 45, showing that he had to be from the Kingdom of Orodruin, because they had the shortest lifespans, being of purely Manish decent, and this man was on the downhill climb. That gave me two answers, but I still had to find out his name and date of birth. I went into his childhood memories, but found nothing there, so I went to his early twenties. I sifted through his memories and saw a blue cake, with the words Happy Birthday %#@(!37 J*)& 5m!T)(. The man was trying to obscure his name. I forced further into his mind, hard and fast, so that he did not enough time to block it, and I saw his name was Daniel John Smith. Immediately, I thought wow men have such strange names, to which I felt a flare of rage that blocked me out of his twenties. I had to find his age. However, I now knew he had turned 20 on a Monday, so I calculated backward, and realized he had to have been born on a Monday this year, and thus narrowed it down to 52 days. Seeing as it was February 27th, it had to be early or late in the year, because I remembered seeing snow outside the window in his memory. That left 26 generous days. So I began to look at his memories from each month and found a calendar, marked on December 12. I wrote my answers on the paper and teleported it through the crack. Serendipitously, another portal opened up. I entered the portal.
. . .
As I exited the portal, I appeared in a room with no doors or windows, and the portal closed behind me, leaving me trapped. As I glanced ahead I saw a beam of light falling down upon a black stone table surrounded by the blood of a virgin cow, making it a table that was an altar. Near the blood were a stick, five candles, and a red talon of some variety. On an impulse, I decided that the test was Abjuration, and began a summoning ritual. I took the stick, and drew a Dodecagram out of the blood, then cut myself with the talon and placed it along with 13 drops of my blood, in the center. As I backed away I said,"Raukoosse namirina" meaning "demon of terror, be free." At that point, a five-minute timer appeared on the back wall, showing how long I had to survive. I quickly but clearly shouted,"Turmakala, VARYA" meaning "shield of light, PROTECT" Around me, a glowing full bubble shield appeared, protecting me from the demon. I went back to the table because the light shining on the table strengthened my shield, and kept me safe from the tier twelve demon I had summoned. I sat there, wondering why this challenge was so easy, as the timer counted down the last 6 seconds to the two minute and thirty-second mark. At that point, a man slid out of a slide in the wall and the demon turned to attack him. Without thinking, I transferred my shield over to him... which left me exposed. The demon quickly turned on me, and raked me in the gut with all three of his 7-inch red talons. instantaneously, I whipped off my outer garment and attempted not to scream as I felt the acid from his claws burn my skin, almost cauterizing the wound due to the swelling. Gritting my teeth, I snarled"Wanya ataiungo, Morion." which means "Go back to the shadow, son of the dark." The spell, however, did not have any magic behind it, due to the fact that the poison weakened me, and most of the rest of my energy was focused on protecting the man in the shield. I pulled out my sword, made of blessed steel, and began to duel the demon. However, most of the next minute of the duel was spent trying to avoid the demon, and strike it when possible, all of which failed. He was too fast and strong and the poison was weakening me at an expedited rate. I collapsed on the ground, awake, but exhausted, and watched the demon float over to me. it picked me up by the neck and began to apply pressure, with its talons digging into my neck. Then my adrenaline kicked in. I allowed instinct to take complete control of my body, and sliced off its hand that had me by the throat, then stabbed it in the chest. As I fell to the ground, the timer went off. I dropped the light shield and shouted "WANYA ATAIUNGO, MORION," The demon, already weakened from the blow to its chest, dissipated, and was sent back to the dimension that it came from. I passed out.
. . .
When I came to, I noticed the pain was gone in my gut, and that my stomach was bandaged. However, I was still in the room with the black altar, the man gone, and a portal on the other side on the table. A note lay on the table in basic, which read "We managed to convince the council to allow us to heal you, but we will not be able to do so again. Good Luck with the next five! With Blessings, Aranellevanima and Saironellotoron" My friends had saved me again. I grinned, grateful and amazed that I had friends such as these two. Quickly, I gathered my sword, my thoughts, the note and myself, and walked through the next portal.
