Twenty-Seven.

'I fucked up.' Joe says sighing as his brother's face appears on the laptop screen.

'What happened?' Nick asks.

'Demi and I were at the airport waiting to come home and she was talking about how she was scared that if we had kids and something went wrong with my career I would end up resenting her.' Joe replies.

'Okay...' Nick says gesturing for his brother to continue.

'Then she said that she wasn't worried about her career because she'd give up her career for a family if she needed to and I took that as she thought I would choose my career over her.' Joe replies.

'I can see why you would jump to that conclusion. You know what Demi's like, Joe. She overthinks things when it comes to her relationship and especially when it comes to you. She is so in love with you that she's scared of something going wrong.' Nick says and Joe nods his head.

'I know. I just- The thought that she might think I would pick anything over her hurts... I feel like she's just waiting on me to fuck up.' Joe admits.

'You two are like the worst combination ever. You need to start communicating. Ignoring this issue isn't going to make it go away; she made the first step by telling you what scared her now you need to speak to her.' Nick says.

'You knew she was feeling like that, didn't you?' Joe asks and Nick nods his head.

'She told me not long after you two got back from Dallas... She was scared that you'd freak out if she told you; which you've clearly proved her right by the way...' Nick replies causing Joe to sigh.

'Fuck.' Joe mumbles.

'You need to get over to Mike's, I'm assuming that's where she is?' Nick says and Joe nods his head.

'Okay. You need to get over to Mike's and apologise for freaking out when she was only telling you the truth. You need to make sure she knows that you would pick anything over her and you need to take her flowers. Chocolates would probably help as well.' Nick adds.

'What would I do without you.' Joe says and Nick smiles.

'Probably end up forever alone... Now go get her back.' Nick replies.

'Is Demi in?' Joe asks as Mike appears at the front door.

'She's upstairs; she's pretty upset so if you're here to argue with her then please just leave because she doesn't need that.' Mike replies.

'I'm here to apologise. I've been an idiot.' Joe admits.

'Yes you have.' A small voice says and they both turn to find Demi standing halfway down the stairs with Batman in her arms; her eyes are red and puffy from crying and she looks completely exhausted.

'Demi, I-' Joe begins and she shakes her head.

'Joe, I can't do this right now. I'm exhausted and I just want to get some dinner then go to bed.' She says as Mike glances between the couple.
