"No thanks," you tell the lady, and you and your mom and brother walk away.

"Meet us at the food court at six," your mom tells you, and they walk off to some other part of the mall, leaving you to shop for Christmas presents on your own.

***

"Did you find a present for everyone you wanted to buy a present for?" your mom asks you.

"Yeah," you tell her. She nods.

"Good," she says. "Now what do you want to eat?"

***

You walk through the door and into your home.

"Can I open my present now?" b/n asks your mom as they also enter.

"Yes, sweetie," she agrees. She takes the present that "Mrs. Claus" gave him out of one of her shopping bags and gives it to him. "Here you go." He opens it up and pulls out a gold coin that is kind of large and has a picture of a four-leaf clover engraved on both sides. Your mom makes a confused face.

"What is that?" she asks and takes it from him. She turns it in her hands, seeming to inspect it. "Looks like Mrs. Claus was confused. Christmas is coming up, not St. Patrick's Day! And I think- I'm not sure- but this is heavy, like real gold." B/n looks very excited at this.

"I'm rich!" he exclaims and takes the coin back from your mom. He runs off towards his bedroom, and, once he is out of your sight, you hear a crash. "Ow!" he shouts. "Who put that toy there?"

***

"So, they gave him that instead of a candy cane or something else like that?" your dad questions you as you tell him about b/n's coin, him having come home from work.

"I guess so," you respond.

***

"Y/n, wake up!" your mom says urgently, shaking you. You can tell immediately that something is wrong. You look at the digital clock next to your bed. It's 1:36 in the morning.

"What's going on?" you ask.

"B/n's missing," she tells you. "Your dad and I have been searching for him for an hour after I tried to check in on him and discovered that he wasn't in his room or a bathroom." You almost panic and jump right out of bed.

"I've called the police," your dad tells your mom as he comes into your room. You can see the fear in their eyes. That same worry is probably in yours as well.

"Where all haven't you looked?" you ask.

"We haven't checked around the neighborhood yet," your dad responds.

So you and your mom go out there and look. And look. And look some more. Your dad stays home to receive the police and answer their questions.

Eventually, you've been searching for hours. You and your mom even split up to cover more ground.

You come to an open space near some woods. You nearly gasp. There in the space, written in icy letters, are the words "I know where b/n l/n is".

"Hello?" you ask the empty air around you. It's soon filled with snowflakes as snow begins to fall, and you shiver and stick your hands in your coat pockets.

"Do you know him?" a voice behind you asks. You turn around. Jack Frost is standing right there on the ground. Santa isn't the only Guardian you believe in. "Do you know b/n l/n?" he asks again.

"He's my brother," you say, and an interesting expression comes over his face, as if what you said suddenly changes everything within this moment.

"You need to come with me," he tells you.

"Are you taking me to b/n?" you ask.

"No, but you'll hopefully see him soon," he says. Hopefully?

"Where is he?" you ask him.

"We'll tell you later," he responds.

"We? As in you and the other Guardians?" you ask.

"You know that we're the Guardians?" he asks you.

"Well, yeah," you answer. "Ever since a few years ago, a lot of people have found out that you guys are a group called the Guardians who defend children from Pitch Black."

"Well, that'll save a lot of explaining," he says. He then pulls out a snow globe, whispers something into it, and throws it on the ground. A colorful portal appears. "Come on." He gestures you forward before jumping into the portal. You follow, and, as soon as you make it out on the other side, you collapse onto the floor of North's workshop. That portal ride was quite disorienting.

"Are you okay?" Tooth asks you.

"Is that her, mate?" Bunny asks Jack.

"Yeah, that's her," Jack responds as Tooth helps you up from the floor.

"Have you told her anything?" North asks Jack.

"Not yet," he responds.

"Okay, first thing's first," North begins as he turns to you. "Jack brought you here because Manny said you were important. We don't know why. You could be a Guardian or just someone Pitch wants to use as a weapon." You think back to when your brother was sitting on "Santa's" lap at the mall. Now that you are thinking about it, that man kind of looked like Pitch...

"I think I saw Pitch earlier," you say to North. "He was dressed up as you at the mall." You don't know how he could've gotten himself employed. The Guardians all appear to be thinking about what you said.

"Was he scaring the children or anything like that?" Tooth asks.

"No, I don't think so," you say, shaking your head.

"I don't know what he could've been doin', then," Bunny comments.

"What else were you gonna tell me?" you then ask, bringing back the original topic of conversation. The Guardians look around at each other nervously.

"Your brother...was kidnapped by Pitch," Jack says regretfully. "We don't know why he did it." Panic floods your head.

"We have to go save him!" you exclaim. Who knows what Pitch could be doing to him?

"Don't worry!" Tooth says hurriedly. "We're planning on doing that tomorrow. Right now, you need to get some sleep. You look exhausted." Sandy forms a ball of Dreamsand in his hands, implying that if you don't willingly go to bed, they will make you.

"But...where? Where will I sleep?" you ask, feeling slightly defeated. "And what about my parents? They'll be worried about me."

"You can sleep in a guest bedroom just down hall," North answers. "And we'll write a note to your parents telling them not to worry about you. I'll put it in their mailbox." He then takes you to the room he was talking about, and you don't bother asking for pajamas to change into. You just take off your coat and get in bed. The sooner you go to sleep, the sooner you'll wake up and get to save your brother.

As soon as you wake up, you don't even check to see if the sun's up yet, not that it would be much of an indication of the time since you're at the North Pole. You just get right up and go down the hall to the globe room, the room that you had originally came through the portal into. You find the Guardians all standing there, already discussing how best to go rescue b/n. They turn to you as you approach them.

"Here," North says to you, grabbing a plate of cookies and handing it to you, "breakfast." Tooth gives him a disgusted look but keeps quiet. You eat a few of the cookies off of the plate as the Guardians keep talking to you.

"We're trying to come up with a plan to rescue your brother," Jack tells you. "We think he's in Pitch's lair with him. Do you have any ideas on how to get him back?"
