I changed the title if you hadn't noticed... it's a little better but I'm still not happy with it >3<
Chapter 3
Sunlight was streaming down on my face, encouraging me to open my eyes. So I did, and at first didn't realise where I was, but then remembered all that had occurred yesterday. Wow, eventful. I got up, stretched, then put a hand in my pocket.
"Bwah!" I squealed, whisking it back out upon feeling something.
There was a thin and worn blue rope, with what seemed like a chunk of bamboo sliced in half hanging from it, with a wavy line carved carefully in on the flat side. I slid it over my head so it hung around my neck, only the rope showing while the bamboo was nestled against my chest under my shirt.
"Morning!" Toby said cheerfully, looking in the tent and seeing me awake. "A late sleeper, huh?"
I gently punched his chest, then walked outside and loving the warmth of the sun. It must've rained last night, as the air was damp and tiny water droplets stuck to my skin, blobs of water clinging to leaves and dew covering the grass in a pale and sparkling blanket. I loved these kind of mornings.
"I'm not a late sleeper. The sun's only just come up a little while ago!" I complained.
Toby came and stood next to me, shielding his eyes from the light as he looked up. "We always get up just before dawn, so we can watch the sunrise every morning. So compared to us, you're a late sleeper!"
"Oh, shush. Anyway, I'm gonna go see the world, tell Martyn when he gets back from wherever." I replied, skipping off through the trees.
"Be careful!" He called after me, and he seemed genuinely concerned. That's sweet.
I sprinted through the forest, not wanting a repeat of yesterday, and headed towards the... what was it called, Jaffa Factory? Immediately I spotted Simon with some TNT in his hand, a flint and steel in the other. He was unsuccessfully striking the two latter objects together and attempting to light the TNT on fire. I stared at the ground next to the explosives, absentmindedly running my fingers along the necklace thing, stroking the wavy line, and to my surprise blue flames sprouted up where I was looking. Simon jumped back, startled, and I rushed closer, curious and amazed at the strange fire. Now that I looked closely, it was more like water acting like fire, if that makes any sense. I gave a smile to Simon, and in that lapse of focus the watery-fire vanished.
"What in the Nether was that?!" He boomed to me, and I cringed at the volume.
I shrugged. "Dunno. I came to ask, who else can I visit here? I've already seen Martyn and Toby, you guys, and..." I shuddered at the memory, "Ridgedog..."
He seemed shocked that I'd met Ridge, but ignored it. "There's Rythian, Zoey and Teep, the Rail Bros, Hannah and Nilesy, Area 11, Panda, Sips and Sjin..."
Rythian sounded the most interesting. I remember Duncan talking about him before. "Where's Rythian?"
"Oh, uh..." He scanned the horizon, a hand horizontal above his eyes. "I have no idea. Better ask Lewis or Dunc. They'll probably be somewhere in the factory."
"Thanks!" I said, walking to the factory's tiny door.
When I glanced over my shoulder before going in, I saw he was back to the flint and steel, trying harder this time. There was a spark that flew off, and it landed on his beard, setting it alight. He started to run around, arms thrown in the air, before dropping to the ground and rolling around. When that didn't work, he started patting his beard, and eventually the fire went out. I couldn't help but laugh, then went inside, looking up through the coloured rings that symbolized each floor. I heard shouting from one floor, and decided to go investigate, so I floated upwards. Wait, what? I'm floating? How?! I started to fall, but managed to grab the edge of one ring, not bothering to look at the colour, and tried to climb up. When I couldn't, I just hung there.
