Chapter 16

(Infinity's POV)

I watched sadly as Toby determinedly walked off, knowing both of us missed Duncan a lot, but Martyn even more. After clenching and unclenching my fists several times in hopes of preventing crying, I became aware of a sort of 'woosh' noise, and although I couldn't tell who it was when they were that far away, I knew it wasn't a good person. In response, I Water-Teleported over to Toby, then grabbed his arm and yanked him to the ground, changing both of us into a non-suspicious puddle of water. I'm glad I did, as just after that I heard footsteps coming closer behind us, and Ridge loomed over us for a split second before slamming open the door and yelling out.

"Come out, you cowards!" He screamed, storming inside with a red matter katar in one hand.

"Uh-oh..." I mumbled, changing us back to people.

"We can fight him easily! Simon and Lewis have weapons and Swiftwolf's Rending Gale (Yes, I remember the name of it. I played the old tekkit too you know, and that was one of my fave items!) rings to follow him or flee in the air if necessary! He's majorly outnumbered, so we can take him down with that advantage." The brunette exclaimed confidently, while I just stared at the building with doubt.

"I don't know... Ridge is a demigod, remember... even with our advantages, the triumphant outcome tips his way." I explained, and Toby sighed.

"Yeah, I know... but I just wish-" He quietened down when he heard voices from inside.

"-You're lying, Xephos! Tell me!"

"I'm not lying, Ridgedog. They never even came inside, I don't know where they are. I haven't seen them since we went to Inthelittlecorp to check up on them. Leave us be, demigod." Lewis said calmly, though I could tell he was restraining anger.

"I'll kill Honeydew here if you don't reveal their secret location!" I could imagine Simon at sword-point, grumbling something like 'See Lewis? This is why you let me have Jaffas when I want...'.

"You will not harm him!" The raven-haired man shouted protectively, though I could sense panic bubbling up inside of him.

"Fine. I'll harm you instead!" There was a thud as the dwarf was probably dropped, then the pounding of footsteps.

I needed to intervene, and I felt this was the right moment, so I opened the door a little and slid inside, creeping up behind Ridge as he advanced on Lewis. "Ridgedog."

He whirled around with a sword, and luckily it only sliced my cheek open with the tip. "Ah, it's good to see you again, my darling." His mouth became a smirk as he sheathed his weapon and reached with one hand towards my face, stroking one cheek with his thumb.

"Infinity! When did you get here?!" The raven-haired man said, in shock.

I ignored him, instead looking directly into Ridge's golden-brown eyes with annoyance. "No more fighting."

He considered, then gave in. "Anything for you, sweetheart."

It was becoming difficult to stay put any longer, but I forced myself to, only shuffling my feet a little. "Now, why were you fighting?"

"Because I was afraid he would hurt you, petal." He drawled on, gently wiping away the blood from my face that had trickled out of the cut with his thumb.

This surely couldn't be the same Ridge as the one who would stop at nothing to steal me? "He wouldn't hurt me. Lewis is a friend. You won't hurt him or anyone else, will you?"

"Of course not, honey. Anything you say." The cut on my face had mostly healed, though it was worryingly slow.

Now this was getting scary, especially as I didn't feel the urge to pull away anymore. "Don't even threaten them at all, no matter what." My voice was softer, more gentle and less aggressive than before.

"Why would I do that, my love?" He replied sweetly, moving a little closer.

I sighed, still for some reason not moving as he moved his hands to my waist. "Did you hurt Martyn or Duncan at all?"

Ridge looked furious for a second, but then he returned to his innocent smile. "Just knocked them out after they wouldn't tell me where you were."

I shook my head, though there was no anger for some reason. "You shouldn't have done that. Otherwise, are they safe?"

Our bodies were pressed together, and I still didn't leave. "Yes, they're unharmed otherwise, flower."

"Good, good..." I murmured, not really caring about anything else as I reached up and placed my arms around his neck.

"Do you need anything else, Princess?" He continued, stroking my hair with one hand, the other still on my waist.

I could hear talking in the background, but I wasn't listening, only staring into his amazing eyes. "No, thank you. I'm fine now..."

"Oh, but, I don't think you are yet." He said mysteriously, making me tip my head on one side with curiosity.

"Why's that?" I asked, and in reply he moved his hand under my chin so it tipped up my head, and he leaned down, so our faces were only inches apart.

"You'll be safe soon..." He whispered, and I shivered as his warm breath brushed my face, closing my eyes with pleasure as his lips connected with mine.

"I-Infinity?!" A small voice exclaimed from somewhere.

My eyes swiftly opened, and I only just registered what was going on, making me shudder before I slapped his face, wiping my mouth with a sleeve. "What the Nether Ridge?!"

He looked at me, hurt in his eyes, but I avoided his gaze, afraid I'll be drawn in again. Instead, I stared at Toby who was standing in the doorway, looking shocked. After taking a few steps towards him, becoming less stable each time, I collapsed on the floor, having no more energy left to use. I didn't hear any footsteps come towards me, and I'm not surprised. I just willingly kissed Ridgedog.

"What's wrong with me..." I whispered to myself, trying and failing to get back up, instead closing my eyes.

"Why are none of you helping her?" I heard Ridge exclaim angrily as he came closer. "Do you not care for her?!"

There was no reply, and the demigod growled, picking me up and holding me close. I felt the wind rush past my face, and I guessed we we flying, but I wasn't caring about that.

"Are you okay?" He murmured softly, but I didn't reply, too lost in my thoughts.

They didn't even move when I fell, they didn't even make any comments to see if I was okay... did they even truly care, like Ridge does? Was it all just an act that deceived me into thinking Ridge was the monster, instead of them? It must be! Ridge is the only one who came over, the only one concerned for my health. The only one who loves me.

"Sorry..." I said softly. "And thank you..."

Without opening my eyes I sensed him smile, which made me happy. I curled up closer to him, trying to hide from the sudden cold air, and he understood, taking off his coat and laying it over me as we flew.

He cares. He loves me.
