Chapter 14
(Infinity's POV) *le gasp!*
When I walked through the door, on the other side was not what I was expecting. Then again, I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but it certainly wasn't this. It was a dark hallway, a single candle burning with darkfire occasionally casting a small area of light. From where I was, I couldn't see the end of the tunnel, so I guessed it must be long. I turned my attention to the walls themselves, having only just recovered from my shock to take in more details. Lining the sides as far as I could see were different paintings, some faded, others new and bright. Most of them were too ruined to see properly, but when I peered closely, I could make out small details that seemed familiar to me. I decided to walk towards the other end of the corridor, where most of the newer ones were. At one point, there were no paintings at all, and for some reason this worried me, so I quickened my pace and stared at the first new picture. I simply stared in shock at it. It was of me, lying on the beach, and Simon and Lewis discovering me and assuming me dead. I glanced at the next picture, shuffling sideways as I did so to get a better look. This was was at the Jaffa Factory, and Duncan was just flying down after Lewis had called him. I skipped a few after that, deliberately avoiding the one depicting the first meeting with Ridge, instead staring at the one after, where Martyn brought me back to their camp to meet Toby. These were my memories, envisioned on canvas and framed on the walls. This was my life. But... what about the first ones, have they been forgotten? I jogged back to them, conscious of but ignoring the stare of Death. Underneath the paintings was a small sign, showing my age and the location as well as the title which explained the scene. As I went along, reading the notes, I paused.
'First meeting with Martyn'. Infinity, 10 years, the Elven Castle.
Though the picture was blurry, I could just about make out the details, and from what I could see there was a castle with a girl right at the top, waving to a boy down in the castle grounds, who seemed to be smiling. The girl was... me? So that meant Martyn was the boy... and I knew him when I was ten?! How come I don't remember this?! I looked to Death for answers, and they waved their hand in an arc in front of them. At first nothing happened, so I shrugged and was about to continue until a splitting pain shot through my skull, making me drop to the floor and grab my head in my hands.
"I'm undoing the charm that made you forget your early memories." Death's voice echoed from my mind.
I let out a scream, wanting to die to stop the pain, even though I was already dead. Then, as quickly as it came, it stopped, and I slowly opened my eyes that I didn't realise were shut to be greeted by a purple-ish glow. I carefully sat up, then saw a portal right next to me, making me jump to my feet and I instinctively get ready to resist.
"Relax, child. You need to go back to the land of the living to stop the demigod from enslaving the world you love. Go now, leave the void and don't come back any time soon." Death said softly, motioning to the sparking purple portal, and after a few glances back and forth I relaxed, for some reason trusting them, and stepped forwards into the dimensional rip.
I knew I was somewhere else, as I could sense a different presence. It felt like a weight had been lifted, regaining my memories like that. I heard the person turn around, then they took my hand in theirs. I would've reacted, but I felt too weak to do anything just yet.
