Chapter Forty ❄

Lyra's P-o-v

As soon as Astrid found a trail,  we didn't even bother to wait for another minute before jumping in our cars and do what is needed to be done.
The royals refrains from coming with us for their safety though Alia wanted to come. This is risky and we don't want to put her life in danger. Considering that Astrid called them "Extra Baggage" is enough for them to wait for the result.

"There is a possibility that this will end badly,  Jam." Astrid muttered when we are preparing the things we needed before dumping it in the back of the car.  "We know you can fight as well as Manu but I am not sure about this lady over here."

She jerked her head towards my direction as if the statement is implied directly to me. Everybody looked at me and I can't help but to lowered my head because of the sudden attention and annoyance at the same time.

Jam sighed.  "I know but we can't leave her alone. We have some business to do and she is included in that. I am not going to bug the organization with this kind of problem if it's not as sudden as this."

"and this business that you are talking about is travelling,  am I right? Is she one of the passengers that is needed to be boarded?" Astrid whispered for our ears to hear,  hoping the other people around us didn't hear the conversation.

Jam just nodded before Astrid sighed, we all entered the car that we are going to use for the mission. 
The travel was silent,  the only thing that I can hear is the typing sounds being made by the agent with her laptop and her police radio that linked with the other people that is with us in the other car trailing behind us. Manu is the one who is driving while Jam is sitting beside him on the passenger seat. 
I can feel my whole body shaking and I took a few deep breaths to calm down.  I don't want to be the hassle in this mission and let alone being an extra baggage.

"Calm down,  Lyra." Manu chuckled.  "I can sense your panic here."

I smiled at him and I can't help but to blush by his sudden care that he is showing me. Is it possible for him to like me too? though it is going to be hopeless because it is either we are going to be back centuries ago or I am going to die plus I am no match with his girlfriend and I know that they went a whole lot situations that made them stronger than, me interfering their relationship. I can feel Astrid's sudden gaze at me that is boring holes by my side.

"Everything would be alright, Lyra." Jam said,  trying to comfort me though she can't comfort me like Manu can but I just smiled and closed my eyes. 
After a few more minutes,  the car suddenly pulled a stop in the woods. This place seems to be abandoned and I am surprised that they can track a place like this which is not in the map. The mushy brown soil and the green leaves that is giving a color on the wind made it a bit creepy than I thought plus the silence that embraced the whole place is terrifying just like what you can feel when you suddenly planned a visit at midnight while Michael Jackson's thriller is on. The place itself is dead,  no chirping of birds or any sign of life here,  only the rustling of the leaves is playing as the background music.
Everyone got out and took their weapons.  I can see Jam handing Manu the varnished wood while she took the sword and the dagger.  Guns are kept on their waist. Astrid handed me a gun too while she prepared the other things that she is going to bring for the fight. 
I am afraid to hold the metal weapon because I am not used to it but I don't want to be a chicken in this mission,  I need to be there when Elsa and Jack are to be rescued. I need to have a distraction for my upcoming panic attack so I turned to look at the couple again and I can't help but to envy them. This made my heart broke a bit.

"you ready,  babe? I don't want to lose you." Manu asked his girlfriend while his arm are wounded on her waist. He snuggled his face on the crook of her neck. I have never seen them displaying this much affection for the public to see but I guess they need to do this before putting themselves in danger. They are just worried for each other.
