Phobia (Church)

The night came quicker then Alaska anticipated. She planned to be back Blood Gulch before the sun set. She instantly regretted not listening to Lambda, as much as she hated to admit it, he was right about the time it would take to get back to Blue Base.She huffed to herself before sitting down on the edge of a cliff that over looked the entire canyon. The entire land was dark except for the lights from the Red and Blue bases.

''Well.'' Lambda appeared on her left shoulder. his arms crossed, and a confident smirk upon his snout. ''What a predicament you seem to be in, Alaska.''

Alaska closed her eyes and tried to ignore her A.I's taunting. She knew that it wouldn't help but it was worth a try.

''Please. Don't do this.'' She begged, slightly shaking in her armor. Her heart was beating so fast that she thought it would burst out of her chest.

''What do you mean?'' Lambda's voice came into her mind. ''You are the one with nyctophobia, correct?''

''You know this, already!'' Alaska yelled, meaning to sound aggressive but it came out fearful.

''You know something,my dear, Jade.'' Lambda manifested himself as an anubis with red eyes behind her closed eyes. She gasped from shock and started to whimper.

''You seem to forget that I am a part of you. There is nowhere th-''

''Hey, Alaska!'' A voice caused Lambda to disappear and Alaska to snap back to reality. She turned towards the cavern behind her and aimed her assault rifle at the intruder.

''What the fuck?! It's me , Church!'' the man stepped into the dim light of the moon.

''church?'' she lowered her gun and turned her head slightly.

''yeah I-oof!'' church was cut off by Alaska slamming into him and squeezing him tightly into a hug.

''Oh Church.'' she was crying and squeezing him ."I'm so glad to see you!''

''Alaska, whats going on?'' church said wrapping his arms around her to return her hug,

''She's afraid of the dark.'' Lambda appeared with his arms crossed.

''What? Seriously?'' Church started to laugh ''What Freelancer is afraid of the dark?''

''Me!'' Alaska finally released him. ''It's a long story. Will you walk me back to the base?''

''As long as you don't try to shoot me.'' Church grumbled before turning back around and turning on his helmets flashlight.

''So, exactly why are you afraid of the dark? Didn't the Freelancers have missions at night?''

''Yes and when we did, I was more like a look out. I would turn the light on my sidearm so it wouldn't compromise the mission. Anyway, I never had to worry about the dark at home because of the SolarBeacons.''

''The radioactive glowing flowers?''

''They weren't radioactive but they did glow. They were everywhere in our house , they were my nightlights. It really was when I was little, I was shoved into a closet as a sort of hazing.''

''You don't remember that your father did that?'' Lambda hissed.

''No, he didn't. Some kids at school did.''

''Are you sure about that?''

''How would you even know that? Didn't she get you after she joined Freelancer?'' Church replied. Lambda didn't reply to him.

''Thanks , Church.'' Alaska nodded to him. ''I was left in that closet for six hours and when I came out, the entire house was dark. While I walked around looking for some type of light, they would make noises or move things to try to scare me. It worked because I was so scared that I ran out into the street and almost got hit by a car. Luckily for me, it was my dad coming to get me.''

''What little assholes.'' Church said ''You should have punched those little fuckers.''

''I was a lil kid and didn't really know what to do in situations like that. It wasn't nun I could do 'bout it.''

''Did you at least tell your Dad?''

''Yes and No. I told him they dared me to watch a scary movie and I couldn't handle it.''

''No offense, but that was some weak shit.'' Church replied bluntly.

''Well that's life.'' Alaska shook her head. She smiled as they finally made it back to the blue base.

''Seems like you are actually a good person, Church. Thanks.''

''Fuck that. I just couldn't let you get hurt. Wash would never let me hear the end of it.''

''Uh huh. Whatever floats yo goat.'' Alaska laughed before walking into the blue base.
