"What do you think is going on with her?" I asked Shadow when we were in my bedroom, sitting down on the bed with my back against the wall and bringing my knees to my chest.

"I honestly don't know," He sighed. "I'm assuming it's to do with Raven but to disappear so frequently? Something isn't right."

"Do you believe she actually killed her?" I asked hesitantly, almost afraid to hear the answer.

"Let's talk about this when she can't hear us." He told me, shooting me a quick smile before wrapping an arm around me.

That was the one thing that I found difficult living with vampires. The fact they could hear everything. They tried to give us privacy but sometimes, they couldn't help but listen in on our conversations. I'd always found that uncomfortable because I didn't want them listening to private conversations and I knew that Shadow had told them not to. It was probably why they frequently went out but still, it was a change I still wasn't used to.

"They're leaving." Shadow then muttered. Seconds later, I heard the front door slam.

"I don't think I'll ever get used to that." I told him.

"Get used to what?"

"The super hearing." I replied with a grin. "It's... awkward at times. I mean, doesn't it ever bother you that they can hear literally everything we say?"

He shrugged. "I've learnt to get used to it."

"But when you're talking to me... doesn't it get awkward then?"

He mulled it over for a few minutes. Eventually, he nodded. "Yeah, okay, I see your point. I'll have a word with them."

"You don't have to do that," I shook my head. "Seriously. It's just a little weird, that's all."

"I don't want you feeling uncomfortable when you talk to me," He explained. "It's about time they moved out anyway."

"Wait, you're kicking them out?!" I gaped at him, eyes wide as I processed what he'd just said. "I didn't mean-"

"I know you didn't," He interrupted. "With the way things have been at the moment, maybe some space alone is exactly what the two of them need to sort out their problems."

"You're not convinced it's something to do with Raven, are you?" I guessed.

He looked torn. "Grief can do funny things to people but Leah acts perfectly fine until she disappears. I don't want to believe she could lie like that but I also wouldn't put it past her either."

"So what are you going to do?"

"I'll think of something. I'll follow her myself if there's no other option."

"Alec already tried that." I reminded him.

Shadow snorted. "I'm a lot better at trailing people than he is."

"Could you get anymore cocky?" I grinned in amusement, nudging him with my elbow.

"Well, it's true." He shrugged, smirking. "But you love me for it."

I snorted. "I wouldn't go that far."

"Oh, really?" He raised an eyebrow, unimpressed and disbelievingly.

"Really." I bit my lip to keep from laughing. It was so easy to wind him up, I couldn't resist doing just that from time to time.

Suddenly, I was no longer sat beside him on the bed. He pulled me onto his lap so that I was straddling his waist and I glared down at him.
