Alec's eyes narrowed in on mine the second I entered the kitchen the next morning, his lips curled into a smirk that was anything but subtle. He was seated opposite Leah, who was flicking through a magazine with indifference, not particularly interested in the contents but not having anything else to do.
That was the problem with waiting for an inevitable attack, an attack that you knew would end with multiple fatalities. You didn't know what to do with yourself while you waited because there was only so much preparing and training you could do, because when you were fighting for your life, you couldn't always rely on the tactics you'd used against your friends. They wouldn't always work; you couldn't rely on the enemy doing what you predicted they would do.
"You and Shadow finally did the dance with no pants, didn't you?" Alec spoke, smirk still firmly in place.
I froze, halting near the fridge as I bit down hard on my lip. I looked at Alec, who was watching me with so much amusement I just wanted to slap him.
He sniggered. "You so did."
Leah looked up at this, a wicked look in her eyes, shoulders shaking in mirth. "What's he like in the sack then, Vi? Is he big?"
"Oh my god," I hid my face in my hands. "I am so not having this conversation."
"Hey, we've heard him with plenty of girls over the years so we know- ow! What the fuck was that for?!" Alec glared at his girlfriend, who was shaking her head and rolling her eyes.
"I don't think Violet wants to hear about the girls Shadow has been with." She spoke, exasperated.
"And I'm sure Shadow doesn't want to hear about the guys that Violet has been with but that didn't stop Rose from taunting him about it, did it?" Alec retorted.
Upon hearing that bit of information, my jaw dropped and I faced him, even more mortified than I had been just a second ago. "Please tell me you're joking."
He looked at me sheepishly. "Afraid not. I told you she's been winding us all up."
"Yeah, but to talk about that..." I was surprised by Rose, that was for sure. She should have known better. Deliberately attempting to piss off a bunch of vampires wasn't the smartest idea in the world, but to hear she'd been taunting Shadow about my sex life... well, I wasn't pleased.
"You can understand why Shadow and I want to kill her now, don't you?"
"You're still not killing her." I huffed. "Why does it feel like I'm repeating myself a lot lately?"
"Because you are." Alec snickered. "You're the only one that wants her alive. Okay, apart from Ric but we all know he wants in her pants and he can't exactly do that if she's dead."
"Unless Ric likes to partake in necrophilia." Came Marl's voice from the doorway and instantly, our heads snapped to look at him, completely stunned.
Simultaneously, we all then burst into laughter because in spite of how stunned we were something like that could come from Marl's mouth, it was far too amusing to not laugh.
"Marl, mate," Alec laughed. "You should talk more. I'd even be willing to pay you to say that to Ric's face."
"Ric would probably be more embarrassed than Violet," Leah laughed. "We all know he doesn't like talking about his sex life at all."
"Probably because he doesn't have one." Alec replied, grinning widely.
"Or maybe it's because he knows that it should be kept private." I said. Not everybody chose to brag about their sex lives, after all. Some knew that the only people that should know about it are the people involved. The way it should be, though I was guilty of speaking to Rose about mine, just as she spoke to me about hers.
