"Why are you staring at me like that?" Ric asked after a few moments of me staring at him with a huge grin on my face. I admit I probably was creeping him out but it was far too amusing.

"You've been staring at Rose's ass every time she squats." I told him, grin widening as his eyes went wide.

"W-what?!" He stuttered, shaking his head vehemently. "I have not!"

"Yeah, you really have." I laughed. "Don't worry. She looks at you when you're not paying attention."

It had been two days since we were told of an oncoming attack and Rose's training had been going well. She seemed to get the hang of everything pretty quickly, though I knew she was more determined to prove herself since she was in the company of vampires. Wherever her sudden determination came from, it seemed to be paying off and that was the main thing.

Shadow had been continuously asking Leah where she hid the book the vampires were looking for but she wouldn't give up its location. She seemed to think it was safer for everybody if she kept that bit of information to herself, regardless of the fact the attackers would kill us whether we knew or not. A part of me wondered whether she was even on our side at all but with everything she had done, my doubts weren't surprising. Neither Shadow or Leah would tell anyone else was the book even was but I assume that Vince knew.

As for the vampire that had given us the warning in the first place, it turned out his name's Marl. He had turned up at the house yesterday, offering his assistance. Shadow had immediately welcomed him into his home, so now there were more people living in the house than ever before. While I was grateful that we had more people on our side, I was also disappointed that I couldn't find any time alone with Shadow. It seemed that because everyone was so intent on eliminating the threat that I hadn't even been able to spend that much time with Shadow without someone else lingering nearby. It was frustrating because I missed being in his arms but I knew we had more important things to worry about.

"Violet!" Vince suddenly called my name, interrupting my thoughts as I turned to face him. We were all currently crowded in the living room, all eight of us. The vampires that were more experienced in fighting (Shadow, Vince and Marl) had been giving instructions on how to defend ourselves. Alec, on the other hand, preferred to give myself, Leah and Rose tactics such as using our assets against the attackers. The second he had said that, the three of us had glared at him but he'd defended his suggestion by claiming that if he did, it could distract the attackers long enough for the rest of them to kill them. "Violet, are you listening?"

I shook my head, once again lost entirely in my thoughts. It seemed to be a regular occurence lately, which I knew was dangerous. If I got distracted when I needed to fight for my life, even a second could mean the difference between life and death. "Sorry, Vince. Can you repeat what you said, please?"

Vince sighed and shook his head. "Girl, you are going to end up dead if you do not pay attention. Just because you are a vampire, does not mean that you will make it through this fight. They could be here at any moment."

Marl looked at me and frowned. He rarely spoke, still preferring to speak in monosyllables but at least he was trying to help. Though when it came to helping us train in order to be ready, he chose to bark orders. Whether he was telling us to fight harder, move quicker or telling us to repeat what we had just done, it was pretty amusing when Alec had pointed out that his suggestions reminded him of another activity altogether. It had taken quite a while for both me and Rose to stop laughing long enough to continue training because apparently, we were more dirty minded than the rest of them had given us credit for.

Marl was still watching me as I walked out of the room. Nobody else saw me leave and for that, I was grateful. As there was so many people currently living here, it was difficult to get a moment alone. I walked straight to the front door and stepped outside, hoping that nobody would follow me. I needed a few minutes to myself.
