"Oh, hell fucking no! Give me a stake and I'll fucking go after them!" Rose fumed, looking so determined I knew she actually would go rescue Ric if she knew where he had been taken.
I was absolutely terrified for him; not knowing what he was going through at the hands of the people that had taken him had my mind conjuring up images that had me grimacing. Having an active imagination wasn't always an advantage, I must admit.
Vince had barely given us a chance to process the news before he launched into an explanation. He said that the three of them had been talking about the plan to give Benjamin the fake grimoire when eight people stormed the place. He did say that he'd hidden the pages of the real grimoire earlier so there was no chance of the enemy getting hold of it. That was the only good news about the entire situation because if all our hard work had gone down the drain just like that, I wouldn't have been happy.
"How did they know where you were?" Alec asked Vince once he had finished explaining the fight that had started.
"Leah told them." Marl spoke up. As I looked at him, I saw that his eyes were fixed on Vince, a wary look in them that had me wondering just how bad the fight had been. Vince hadn't given too many details but three against eight was hardly a fair fight. Coupled with the fact they were covered in blood - mainly around the mouth - I knew that some of the enemies had been taken care of, but how many had gotten away?
Vince was losing control, that much I could tell. There wasn't any rationality left in him; it was purely anger. He was furious and it was all Leah's fault.
Alec had once told me not to piss Vince off because a pissed off hybrid wasn't something you wanted to be around to witness, especially if you were the cause. They could tear apart a building in the midst of their fury with no remorse whatsoever. As Vince's lips curled into a smile, his fangs on display reminding me that he wasn't just a vampire but an incredibly strong hybrid who had a penchant for torture, I took a small step back. It wasn't like I was scared of him because despite everything I knew about him, I knew he wouldn't hurt me. I was more afraid of what he could do if he put his mind to it and with the anger that was coursing through his veins, I couldn't be sure that he wasn't going to flip out at any moment.
"When we find her," Vince started to speak, looking at each of us with determination. "I'm going to kill her. I will be the one to do it."
"Vin-" Alec started to speak but Vince cut him off sharply.
"NO!" His eyes flashed dangerously. "Leah has gone too far this time. Ric has been taken and could be being tortured at this very moment. Are you really going to stand there and defend her now?"
"Vince is right," Shadow joined in the conversation, taking my hand in his and squeezing reassuringly. He knew I was worried. "Leah has gone too far. She attacked me and left with them. She had the others attacked and now Ric is gone. She can't keep getting away with this."
"And she won't," Alec protested, glancing at each of us in turn, trying to convince us that Leah wasn't as bad as she appeared to be. "She just wants her sister. That's why she's doing all of this. Wouldn't you do what she's doing if it meant getting a family member back?"
"Would you?" Shadow raised an eyebrow at him, almost daring him to continue. "Would you betray us, put us all in danger, risk us being killed to get one person back? One person that would happily kill you too? Because if you say yes, you are not the person I thought you were."
"But Leah just wants her sister." Alec tried again to reason with us, but his words fell on deaf ears.
There was a part of my that could sympathise with Alec. Leah was the love of his life, the reason he had been turned, so they could spend eternity together. They'd been together longer than I had been alive, so I could understand that he didn't want her to be killed - I didn't want that either. As much as I felt betrayed, hurt by her actions, I didn't want her dead.
