When I was thirteen years old, after having spent the summers day with the boy from next door, I went home to my parents telling me to sit down. Of course, at thirteen years old, I had no idea why they looked so serious. I only knew that whatever they were about to say, I probably wasn't going to like it.

I vaguely remember sitting on the sofa opposite them, their eyes watching my every move, while I came up with anything that would explain why they were watching me with stern expressions. My mum had her arms placed on her lap, sitting up straight while my dad was hunched over, elbows on his knees.

Apparently, the 'news' they had to share had nothing to do with my behaviour like I had been worried about. They informed me that they were going to be going away for a couple of weeks and that I wasn't going with them.

Upon hearing that, I remember feeling so annoyed, so frustrated that I ended up yelling at them. For a thirteen year old girl, I had been incredibly stubborn and refused to let them get away with telling me they were going away without telling me where or why.

To say they were shocked by my outburst was an understatement. By the time I had managed to calm down enough to hear them out, they were both wide eyed and glancing at one another as though they couldn't quite believe what had just happened.

I was experiencing the same emotions, only heightened, after Shadow had finished his little speech. He quickly realised he could no longer keep things from us when someone was going to attack us, so he and Vince had quickly explained everything that had been going on.

At the end of it, I wasn't the only one that was incredibly pissed off either. Ric, who had turned up after Shadow called him, was shaking his head and glaring at the floor, not daring to risk showing Shadow how angry he was. Alec's fists were clenched by his side, not bothering to hide how angry he was as he glared at Shadow, though I knew he was also worried about what he and Vince had done to Leah. Even Rose was annoyed, though she didn't care to keep it to herself. In fact, before I could go on a tirade, she beat me to it.

"Are you fucking serious?!" She screeched, pushing away from the wall she'd been leaning against and taking a step towards Shadow. "You're telling me that some old fucking vampires who are stronger than everyone in this room are after something that Leah stole?! And instead of handing the whore over to them, you're keeping her locked away?! What the fuck?! Let her go so she can give it to them, for fuck sake!"

"That's my girlfriend you're talking about, you stupid little bitch." Alec hissed at Rose, who immediately turned her attention to him.

Smiling sweetly, though a fire in her eyes that couldn't be mistaken, she said, "The same girlfriend that you were doubting, wondering whether she killed her sister and the same girlfriend who ran off and left you after turning Violet? Yeah... seems like a winner to me."

Alec took a step toward her but Ric immediately gripped his arm to keep him in place. We all knew that Alec wouldn't hesitate to snap her neck and I was glad she knew that too because she glanced around nervously.

"Leah certainly has issues," Vince spoke up, seeming delighted at the thought of a fight breaking out, his eyes darting between Alec and Rose and back again. "But until she tells her where she stashed it, there is no point in letting her go."

"If she stole it with the intention to give it to the people looking for it, why hasn't she already done it?" I asked in confusion. Nothing about this was making any sense.

"It's possible she doesn't know what it is." Alec suggested.

Shadow snorted. "Don't tell me you actually believe that? She knows exactly what it is. She only stole it because she thought we had turned our backs on her so she wanted to find some new allies."
