The One You Wanna See

You have got the look!

"Seriously how far along are you?" Prince prompted, " I wanna know right now!"

I rose to my feet, concerned that he was listening to our conversation the whole time.

"Were you listening to our conversation all this while?" I asked pushing my hair behind my ears, avoiding his gaze and folding my arms.  Mom immediately stood up next to me.

"Not all of it, just the part of you being pregnant, why did you lie to me?" Prince questioned.

I did not respond.

I silently bit my tongue. Responding would have been futile. I felt guilty. Besides, I imagined it would only make the situation worse.

"Well? Athena how far along?" he asked. "Good Gawd, woman answer me!"

"Hey, come off it son," Mom said standing between Prince and me. "You heard wrong; you really should not be eavesdropping on conversations son, where is Rick?"

"Right here, babay," Rick said bursting into the room. Apparently, he heard part of the conversation too!

Mom winced, now she was the nervous one.

"That was cold-blooded of you. Mama, Taking my baby out," Rick said, his eyes dropped to the floor. I felt sorry for him.

Prince looked at my mother shocked at the revelation.

"You are the pregnant one?"  he raised his hands in the air. "Now I have seen everything with this family."

Mom shrugged as though it was not a big deal. I started biting my fingers; this was too much to bear.

"You look a little nervous." Prince quipped. "Why?" He asked pointing at me. I wanted to tell him that it is possible that I am pregnant, but I do not know who's baby it is.

I did not want to say to him "I betrayed you with Micki not once but twice?"

But then the question about Alicia hit my very being! My soul wounded by the possibility that he had his way with her in our home.

I nervously tapped my feet on the floor.

Luckily we had a distraction if only for a moment.  Rick upset, began yelling at the top of his voice.

Prince rushed to Rick's side in a failed bid to calm him down.

"Hey, hey, look here, this ain't none of your business. Maybe you should take your four foot nine self out of here and let this Nubian king talk to his queen."

Then Rick said:

"You know what as a matter of fact, I think I will leave."

Mom followed him out the room.

Leaving Prince and me alone. My breathing increased as Prince took slow steps around me. With each step he took, he regarded me with suspicious eyes. I couldn't take it anymore.

"Could you please not do that?" I begged, clasping my hands to my chest.

"Why? Maybe if you spoke the truth, and the truth had better not be about him."

"I have nothing more to say." I murmured. "But you need to tell me about ...."

"hmm darling, perhaps I should read paragraph five of the Agreement," He said pulling out a piece of paper from his pocket. "You agree not to speak with any male employee or otherwise. Baby, did you not agree to this?"

"Yes," I murmured, wearily. Unsure of where our conversation was heading? I thought we were now in a great place with our love.

"Then why did you talk with Chuck, I made it clear you are not to speak with any male employee. Plus what is the deal with Remi, are you with him too?"
