"Hmmm," my face turned towards the door. Then I exclaimed:

"Mom, what are you doing here?"

My mother quietly walked into the room with Rick by her side.

My heart skipped a bit as I pondered who else was going to walk through that door. If Prince appeared in the room, he would have a fit.

Speechless, My mom took one look at both men standing at the opposite sides of my bed.

Slash gave Micki a curious look. Then he said:

"Hey dude, wow you are a legend." Then he turned to me "Athena how do you know each other ?"

I felt a pit in my stomach. I stayed silent not wanting to stir the hornet's nest.

Slash wondered why Micki stood there holding flowers too.

I guess the feeling was mutual because Micki had a look on his face that spoke volumes. How did he know I was in the hospital, who told him? I wondered. Finally, Micki spoke up.

"Who is he, Athena," he asked. I found it surprising and a little disappointing that neither one acknowledged my mother's presence.

Before Slash could respond Rick interrupted:

"I will ask the questions around here young man."

Then he continued, turning to Slash:

"So what are you two doing here and who are you?"

Slash then made a move to shake Rick's hand:

"Hi, I am Slash."

Rick took a look at him and said:

"Oh yeah, you are the guy who worked with Michael on that "dangerous" album right? You seem different."

"Yeah, dude that's me, I look different? Hmm maybe because I do not have my hat on and my hair is not on my face man!"

Rick ignoring Slash promptly moves on to Micki:

"And what are you doing here Micki?"

My mom quickly interrupted.

"Oh, Rick, What does it matter? The fact is they are both here, so it's nice to see my baby girl has a lot of friends. My you two are good looking."

My eyes widened at my mother's comment. Rick was not amused.

" Well, Uh hmm, if you ask me, I will say there is a lot of testosterone in this room. Where is your man girl? Does he know about all this?"

Rick asked gesturing.

Honestly speaking at this point, Rick's presence irritated me. I wished he would just stop acting like my father!

I finally decided to speak up and said:

"if Y'all don't mind," I began, then I turned to Micki and boldly said:

"I would like to speak with Micki alone."

Suprised, Everyone in the room including my mom stared at me. What could I possibly have to say to him that I cannot say to everyone?

Honestly, I just want to get to talk with Micki before the doctor returned.

Of course, my mom protested.

I leaned forward to touch her hand and said:

"It's OK mom, you can come back in once I'm done speaking with him."

I turned to Slash and smiled:

"Hey you."

He smiled and held my hand. I blushed.
