"Say it again." She whispered breathlessly, one hand lightly caressing his face. She rested on her elbow, smiling down at him.
His eyes studied hers and a light smile appeared under her hands. "I love you."
She crushed her lips against his and pulled him as close to her as possible.
He held her head in his hands and gently pulled her back. "Tell me." His voice hitched, breathless, as his eyes watched her.
"I love you." She whispered just as hoarsely, eager to be enveloped by him once again.
His breaths were sharp as his callused hands raked up her sides in a frantic plea of desperation. He rested on his forearms to keep from crushing her while his lips worked against hers. Her hands twisted his curls and pulled ever so slightly on his head, providing her easy access to his lower neck. They moaned in unison as their bodies molded together, passion heating their blood as they moved together.
He could feel her heart pounding rapidly against his chest, each breath deeper than the one before as their mouths still worked together. Then, everything changed.
Her heartbeat stopped completely, stilling all other movements within her. Her skin became clammy and her touches ceased as she pulled away from him. His eyes darted to hers in confusion, widening when he saw the lifeless, dull eyes staring back. He pulled back, startled as he took in her appearance. She appeared to be dead, right there in his arms. She sucked in a sharp breath and dissolved into nothing. He watched it happen with tears trailing down his cheeks as he realized she was gone.
