Chapter Thirteen: The Truth Comes Out

Their steps were quiet as they walked down the long metal hallway, whispering softly.

"Is it true you tried to leave camp to see Indra yesterday?" Kane peered at Octavia over Jamie's head with an arch in his brow.

The three of them walked close together, scared to speak too loud.

Jamie dropped her gaze as Octavia replied for them. "Look, don't you have more important things to worry about than us sneaking out of camp?"

Jamie parted through the long, red strips serving as a door and her eyes shifted to the familiar path. She remembered running through the halls as a child with Jasper and Monty.

Kane's voice brought her back and her gaze shifted upwards to meet his. "As it turns out that's why you're here."

Kane stopped walking and stepped closer to them. "Indra signaled. She wants to meet. I'd go myself but Pike's watching everything I do now." He handed Jamie a sword with a small nod knowing she hadn't put herself on Pike's radar yet.

"You want us to go see Indra?" Octavia asked with a cautious expression. Her eyes darted around nervously, as they had since they'd started walking with Kane.

"I need you to." His gaze flickered back and forth from Jamie to Octavia. "Between the two of you, Indra and Lexa trust you. If anyone can try to fix this mess, it's you."

Jamie glanced at Octavia and they silently came to an agreement. "We're in but how do we get out?"

Kane pulled some paneling from the wall, exposing a passageway.

Octavia and Jamie shared a smirk before shifting closer to the exit.

"Crawl space. Door in twenty feet drops you outside the camp wall. You get out there, you find out what the hell happened, and you report back here. Can you guys do that?"

Octavia climbed into the passageway and looked around. "I was born for this."

Jamie rolled her eyes at the girl's statement before moving to follow her. Kane placed a hand on her shoulder and leaned closer to her. "Be careful Jamie."

The PA system crackled to life as an announcement blared above them. "Marcus Kane, report to the chancellor's office. Marcus Kane to the chancellor's office."

Jamie's eyes shifted from the speaker to meet his. "I think you're the one that needs to be careful."

He smirked and nodded, moving the panel back into place after she disappeared.

Jamie quietly followed Octavia through the darker passageway, neither speaking until they were outside the gate. Jamie faintly whistled and they both shifted behind a tree while they waited. "What's going on with you and Kane?"

Jamie arched a brow and glanced down at the girl.

"Jamie, I saw you two talking on the side of the Ark and again outside his and Abby's room. You know I won't tell anyone. Not even Lincoln if I can't."

Jamie released a slow breath, eyes drifting to the trees in front of them. "We need an inside man to deal with Pike."

Octavia nodded slowly in understanding. "And since Bellamy is already with him then you should have no problem."
