Her hands trembled as her arms wrapped around her small body. She leaned against her door frame trying to regain her sense of reality after another nightmare. Her ears had perked when she heard voices down the hall and she couldn't help but let her curiosity run wild. Her eyes focused on the shadows in the other room, studying the one that belonged to her father.

"Abby, you have to tell her what you did to him." Jake's voice was low and filled with disappointment.

Jamie wanted nothing more than to run to him and hold his hand; to make the sadness in his voice go away. Her anxiety spiked when the smaller shadow stepped closer to him threateningly. "Don't tell me that Jake, please. I can't...I can't do that to her."

Her shadow slumped as she sucked in sharp breaths of air and Jake quickly closed the gap between them. "You can do it." His voice was quiet and soothing as he added, "she needs you to."

"She'll never forgive me. Do you see the way she already looks at me? I can't...I can't do it!" Abby was quick to respond, voice rising in panic.

Jamie gripped the door frame, panic surging through her. She wasn't ready to hear what Abby had to tell her; the pain in her aunt's voice was too much to take and it made Jamie feel nauseous.

"She looks at you like a scared little girl who just lost everything! She loves you Abbs but she knows she can't compare to Clarke!" He paused as Abby's expression fell. "Look, I'm sorry, I didn't mean-"

"No, it's okay." Abby quickly silenced him with a sharp nod. "I know why you say that but I can't...I just can't be around her without thinking about everything that happened." Her voice broke when she whispered, "she looks so much like him, Jake."

Jake pulled her to him and wrapped his arms around her. "I know. I know." He mumbled soothingly. "She doesn't know that though. She doesn't understand why it hurts you to be around her she just knows...she knows you're not her mother and you are Clarke's. She knows that she will never be your priority and that kills her."

"How can you just say this to me? You know how hard I try!" Abby exclaimed, freeing herself from his hold.

"You're all she has left of her family Abby!" He lashed out, face burning when he realized he failed at stopping the words.

Tears streamed down her face as Jamie crept closer to them, using the wall to shield her shadow.

"I don't want to remember my family! I don't want to remember my brother! I don't want to remember what I did to him!" Abby crumpled to the floor and Jake dove to her, holding her tight.

Jamie watched with wide, tear filled eyes, listening to the broken sobs that revealed so much of a painful history that she knew nothing about.

That was the night she fully understood why she would never see Abby as her mother.

The boy beside him shifted slightly, drawing Bellamy's attention. "You doing okay Monty?" His voice was rough with sleep as he studied Monty.

Monty's exhausted features tensed and he turned towards Bellamy. "What do we do if she doesn't wake up? Just because they restarted her heart doesn't mean-"

"You can't talk like that." Bellamy cut him off, dropping a hand on his shoulder. "She'll come back to us, you know she will."

Monty admired the determination in the desperate man next to him, the man who hadn't slept in the last two days nor strayed too far from her side.
