"Keep walking!"
The deep, familiar voice boomed right behind her but she trudged on just as slowly as she had been. She didn't have the energy to pick up her pace or even focus on anything going on around her at this point. He pushed her forward to keep her with the group and she nearly lost her footing. He chuckled lowly, grip tightening on her arm to keep her up.
"Keep going Trimaneda. There are no other choices for you. Not yet."
He turned to look at the three guards that always remained at her side. "Why does the commander even want this weakling?"
She cringed inwardly knowing how true his words were. Without an acceptable amount of food, water, or sleep, she'd never be free. And the soldiers made sure she remained deprived of what she needed. There was always at least two of them awake and alert to keep an eye on her but they rarely allowed her to rest.
There was almost no need for anyone to watch over her now though. She wouldn't be able to get away in the condition she was in. It had been too long since she had a good night's sleep or a decent meal. Or a shower.
Sixty-four days. Sixty-four days had passed since they took her from her home and forced her to march with them. With Ice Nation. Azgeda, depending on the language. She had become very proficient in Trigedasleng now since she spent most of her days listening to the conversations around her. But sometimes, like now, she allowed her thoughts to wander even though they were rarely good.
"Bell?" Jamie's voice echoed in their small room as she tossed her coat on the bed. Her eyes instantly shifted to the shiny blade on the table and she started moving towards it cautiously. She took small steps, gaze searching their small space as she moved. Her fingers slid along the handle and with a flick of her wrist she held the blade tightly, ready to take on any target.
A loud thump in the hallway caught her attention and her eyes narrowed as she moved to the door. She didn't have a chance to peer out as the door was suddenly kicked in. She found herself on the floor, beneath two large bodies. A gasp stuck in her throat and she reacted instantly. Her knee collided with the groin of one while her head rammed into the face of the other. The bodies shifted slightly and she was able to throw her body through the small gap they created.
Jamie's blonde hair hung in a loose pony tail and swung back in forth as she tried to make a run for it. A third soldier harshly pulled her back as she ran through the door and she was thrown to the ground with ease.
The other two soldiers joined her captor and before she even knew what was happening, the world went black.
Her legs propelled her forward while her ears tried to pick up the conversations going on around her. The Ice Nation people were usually pretty quiet but today they seemed particularly talkative about something. Or someone. Wanheda.
After the first four days, she figured out that Wanheda meant commander of death. All it took was a few context clues for her to decipher the language that Lincoln had started teaching her a month prior to being taken. She found herself listening to those around her, eagerly searching their words for something she could use nearly every second of every day. And after all this time, she still had no idea who Wanheda referred to nor what she had to do with Jamie.
Tiny rocks crunched beneath her boots and a light breeze pushed her large hood away from her face. Her eyes flickered upwards as she pulled the hood back down. Even though she had hated it at first, she was now thankful they dressed her in the same apparel that all Ice Nation soldiers wore. The heavy coat was most likely the only reason she was still surviving the harsh conditions up north.
