She had been excited, nervous, scared and exhilarated at the news.
The more she thought about it the more perfect it seemed.
Everything in Spencer Cavanaugh's (formerly Hastings) life was going the way she wanted and hoped. She had finished her law degree 4 years ago and now had a great job in a law office in Philly. She had become Mrs Cavanaugh 2 years ago and Toby was doing brilliantly as a carpenter and now owned his own carpentry business. They lived in a pretty spacious house on the outskirts of Rosewood and the timing was just right.
Spencer had found out that she was pregnant 5 weeks ago. She'd screamed from the bathroom for Toby and he ran, terrified something was wrong.
In the bathroom he found Spencer doing an odd combination of laughing and crying.
He opened his mouth to ask what was wrong when Spencer turned from where she was gripping the edge of the sink and threw her arms around him.
Toby was shocked at this but laughed and hugged her back.
Spencer pulled back and it was then he realised she was holding a stick in her hand. She held it up and whispered "Congratulations... daddy."
Toby's mouth dropped open and his brain couldn't seem to be able to process his thoughts. There it was, 2 blue lines, clear as anything.
His thoughts suddenly switched on and he pulled Spencer back into a hug and laughed uncontrollably.
"Oh my God, Spence!" He exclaimed, swinging Spencer round in a circle before putting her back down and smiling at her belly.
"Hey baby, I'm your daddy, we're going to have to wait a little while before we see each other but it's going to be so worth it." Toby said to Spencer's stomach.
Spencer laughed at him "I'll have to organise an appointment to see how far along I am. I'm guessing around 2 weeks. And of course we'll have to tell my mom and dad and your dad and the girls and make sure everything is organised before she or he gets here and names! We'll have to look into na-"
"Spencer, breathe." Toby chuckled, his wife had a habit of trying to organise everything months in advance and "breathe" was an inside joke between them whenever someone was getting over excited or stressed.
Spencer smiled and moved her hand to stroke the hair on the nape of his neck.
"I'm breathing but I'm so excited! This couldn't have come at a better time!" She replied.
Toby grinned and together they walked downstairs to make some emotional and exciting phone calls.
3 weeks later and everything was going well, Spencer didn't quite have a bump yet but there was something there, tiny but present.
Everyone had had brilliant reactions to the news. The couple's favourite had been Hanna's which consisted of screaming for 10 straight seconds before telling Spencer that "THAT LEAVES LESS THAN 9 MONTHS TO SHOP, OKAY CAVANAUGH I'M ON A MISSION."
She'd already gifted Spencer an adorable and absolutely tiny onesie.
It sounded strange but that was what made it feel real to Spencer, the fact that in less than 9 months she would have a tiny human that was 50% her, 50% the man she'd loved since she was 16.
They'd placed bets on whether it was going to be a boy or girl. Toby was betting on girl saying that "I need a tiny Princess and if I don't get one then we're going to keep going until I get one."
