It had been 3 years since he'd seen her. 3 years since her world had been turned upside down, finding out her family life had been a lie and that her own twin had been her torturer. 3 since she'd been laying in his arms, promising a new future. 3 years since he'd woken up and found a note she'd left him, a note that just read:
"You deserve better than me. Find your happiness. I love you forever.
-Spence"

He'd tried to find her tirelessly for 2 and a half years with no luck before realising that she clearly didn't want to be found.

But of course, life sometimes has a funny way of forcing you to find things you thought were gone forever.

——

Toby Cavanaugh tried to force himself to stay awake. He only had 15 more minutes until he arrived in London.

He never thought he'd get the chance to work abroad but after training with an architect, he now had an opportunity to design a series of eco-friendly apartment buildings for the homeless.

It felt weird leaving after so long in Rosewood. After attempting to find Spencer for so long he told himself that maybe she'd just come back to him so he couldn't risk leaving. But in the 6 months he'd had that mindset, it hadn't happened.

So he'd taken this job because a. it paid well and b. he could use seeing something other than the Brew and the Applerose Grille.

His flight landed and he picked up his bag, he was staying for around a month so had needed a pretty big suitcase.

He was staying in a hotel near Paddington but would be working in an office in one of the west London boroughs. He felt tired, jet-lagged but cautiously optimistic as he left Heathrow, heading towards the Underground. He got the train no problem, managing to keep himself awake long enough to check in and get changed before crashing on the bed to sleep until Monday.

Monday morning came fast, Toby wasn't feeling as jet-lagged and he felt ready and excited for this job. He knew it was gonna be big, the council and lawyers would be involved but he was looking forward to the challenge.

He got the train about 15 minutes until he arrived in the area of the city he was working with. It was a nice, residential area. Quiet but close enough to the city that it was convenient. He walked into the building, straightening up his tie and signed it. He was taken up to the 3rd floor to meet Ed, the guy who'd offered him the job. Ed was sweet enough, clearly passionate about what he wanted but seemed like the British equivalent of a frat-boy in Toby's eyes. Still, Toby couldn't complain. This job was great.

"Hey, Toby." Ed greeted as he walked into a nice-sized boardroom. "Nice to properly meet you." Ed finished. "You too, I'm super excited for this project." Toby said as he shook Ed's hand.

"If it works out, we should get a lot of homeless people off the streets." Ed said, smiling.

"That's the goal." Toby agreed.

"Here, take a seat and just talk me quickly through your plans and we'll see where can go from here." Ed said.

"Perfect, let's do it." Toby said, taking his bag off his shoulder and opening it up for his blue prints.

Toby had been working for around 5 hours, discussing logistics and plans when Ed seemed to realise something. "Oh! I just realised, if you look out of this window, the plot of land we want to develop can be seen just there." Ed told him. Toby got up from his seat and went to look out the window. He looked at where Ed was pointing at and nodded "It looks good, nice location but wouldn't be an eyesore." he agreed. His gaze dropped to the street a few floors below and suddenly Toby's breath caught in his throat. No. It couldn't be. There was no way. Alex was locked up in an institution somewhere with no chance of getting out for the rest of her life. But there she was, strolling down the London street as if she'd been there her whole life. Chocolate brown hair swept up in a formal bun, a magenta blouse and short tight black skirt. It had to be her.
