Previously: That night, after making sure no one was awake, Spencer slipped out of bed and pulled on a pair of leggings and a jumper of Toby's she kept hidden in her room.

Just as she was about to open her balcony door and climb down the vines on the side of the house to the floor, a voice stopped her.

"Miss Hastings, where do you think you're going?" it asked.

Spencer's heart stopped.

It was Maria, the Hastings' maid and Spencer's former nanny. Fear shot through Spencer as she turned to face Maria.

"Just opening the door, it gets so stuffy in here." Spencer lied.

Maria rolled her eyes and sat down on Spencer's bed, patting it. Spencer sat.

"Do you love him?" she asked.

Spencer's eyes went wide, how on Earth did she know?

"Love who?" she asked, feigning ignorance.

"Oh please." said Maria "You think I don't know you've been sneaking off practically every night for the last 5 months? The only reason a girl your age and your intelligence would do that is if  love made them do it. Do you love him?" she asked again.

Spencer was taken aback, Maria had never been so direct with her and she couldn't believe she'd been found out. Honesty was the only option now.

"Yes." she said simply. "I do love him. I love him more and more every single day, if it's even possible to love someone that much."

Maria smiled "So why keep it a secret? Your parents have been looking to find you someone to keep your status where it is and for your father to teach the family business to, he is a little old fashioned in this ways."

"They would never approve Maria, please, you can't tell them. I'm begging you." Spencer pleaded.

"Why would they not approve?" Maria asked, confused. "They wouldn't mind any boy, unless of course it was a-." she cut herself off, as if she knew she had said something she shouldn't have done.

"Unless it was a what, Maria?" asked Spencer almost bitterly. "Unless he was a Cavanaugh?" she asked.

Maria gasped. "How do you know about the Cavanaugh's?" she asked in a whisper.

"I'm in love with one." said Spencer coldly.

"Dear God Miss Hastings, if your father was to find out-" Maria started.

"He won't find out." Spencer cut her off. "Will he?" she asked Maria, clearly asking for her silence.

"No. He won't. I know what falling in love feels like, you take it and you hold it as close to you as possible, and it's scary and overwhelming but it's also the best thing in the world. I won't say a word." Maria agreed.

"Thank you." Spencer sighed, relieved.

"Now go!" Maria said "Don't keep him waiting!"

And Spencer did. She went out the balcony doors, climbed down the vines and ran all the way to the treehouse.

She saw Toby standing at the base of the tree and he looked up, startled by her rush. She ran faster and he held out his arms, letting her run into them with so much force he had to catch himself before he stumbled.

"Hey, hey baby, what's the matter?" he asked her. She seemed almost distressed.

"Maria knows.  And I was so scared Toby, so scared that I'd already seen you for the last time, that I'd never be able to kiss you or tell you I love you again. Because I do, Tobias Cavanaugh, I love you so much it consumes me. It gets stronger every single day and the thought of ever being without you hurts so much I can't bare it." She said, almost in tears, breathing heavily against his chest.
