Chapter 2: The Accident

Ruben Tyler walked down from the school's rooftop garden lazily. He checked his watch. 9.30 am. The introductory opening assembly must have finished. There are no classes in introductory day, mostly were just students and teachers organizing and planning both intercurricular and extracurricular activities.

The whole school is well aware that despite Ruben's failing marks, high records of skipping schools and classes, breaking almost every rules in the school and always get into fights, Ruben is a natural player in every sports and outdoor activities. The only reason he didn't skip school today was because Nathaniel asked, (no, he preferred the word, begged) him to join the new season of basketball this semester, according to him, the school need extra hand to compete against North High next month. Joining the Basketball team means he has to work with others promoting and planning campaign, which he hates, but he needs to keep Nathaniel happy for now.

Ruben's locker was 868, nicely hidden between the canteen back door and the rooftop garden stairs, which is why it is his favorite locker. As he walked across the canteen door after reaching his locker, a blonde nerdy-looking girl was running out of the canteen with a milkshake in her hand. When the two hit each other, the milkshake were spilled all over Ruben's leather jacket and school uniform underneath it.

"Oh my god! I am so sorry. It was an accident!" Brenda was panic. She took out her handkerchief and tried to clean up his shirt which only caused more mess.

"You... RUINED MY CLOTHES!" His voiced raised up and boomed angrily at her. He held Brenda's wrist harshly and put it up. Why is this girl dare to touch him?! Nobody dares. He made sure of that.

Ruben has a good height of 175 cm and Brenda was barely 155 cm, she had to tipped toe as Ruben held her hand up. "What in the HELL do you think you are DOING?! Do you know WHO I AM? Don't ever mess with my temper!"

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry." Brenda was almost crying when Renata stopped him.

"BEN! STOP!" She suddenly came in between Brenda and Ruben. "Ruben... please put her down." Her voice sounded pleading.

"That ugly girl ruined my freaking shirt!" He boomed out pointing at Brenda angrily. His dark eyes locked onto Renata's.

"Nathaniel have a spare in his car. Calm down. Please." Renata hesitantly tried to touch his shoulder, but seemingly scared of how he would react.

He scoffed. "You think you can control me?" He stared at her in a menacing stare that everybody could feel the heat radiating from the lava boiling inside him.

"You know what? I'm leaving!" He was storming out, but he stopped at Brenda first and pointed his index finger on her. "You better don't pull any more of my nerve!"

Ruben got out of the school building's door, feeling the air coming into him. He smelled freedom in the air, staying in one building for too long gave him the feeling of suffocation. Now that he is finally outside, he decided to head towards his black Harley Davidson Motorbike and bolt off. As he lazily walked, he thought for awhile. Whoever that unknown girl was, she surely has pissed him off. Renata never care about what he's doing. Why did she have to come in between?

"You are not skipping school today, Tyler." Ruben felt his shoulder was held by someone. An annoyingly familiar voice in his ears. The Nathaniel's. He was looking right through Ruben's eyes as Ruben turned around, his expression was stern.

"What are you going to do, Robinson?" Ruben was never scared of this cool acted guy, Ruben always felt that Nathaniel is all big talk and no action.

"You know exactly what I can do." Nathaniel's retaliate as he kept his voice calm, as if mocking a well-guarded Ruben.

They stared at each other in anger as if waiting for the other to initiate a fight. Although Nathaniel is a good 5 inch taller than Ruben, Ruben is clearly more muscular. It seemed quiet obvious who would win this fight.

"You promised you would stay for basketball today. Are you not a man of promise?" Nathaniel decided to speak up.

Ruben hesitated. "That ugly girl ruined my shirt." He gritted his teeth.

"That ugly girl is called Brenda."

"You are protecting your new girlfriend, is it, Robinson? Those morning cuddles. I saw it, you know. It seems like i know your weakness now." Ruben's laughed sounded like a threaten than a mock this time.

"Shut up, Tyler. I have a spare shirt for you."

"I am not wearing any of your things, Robinson." Ruben exclaimed loudly.

"You have no choice. We need to start having mutual understanding here, Ruben." He turned around, and before heading to his silver Volvo, he added, "I simply spare your mum a heartbreak. Remember that."

Ruben's face turned red as he tried to hold deep anger as Nathaniel mentioned his mother. How could Nathaniel pissed him off so badly? Nathaniel can say anything he wants to Ruben, but bringing Ruben's mother into his conversation going as far as threatening Ruben. Clearly as perfect as Nathaniel can be, he still is a cunning little spider in Ruben's eyes.
