Chapter 3: The Spider

Ruben's act really had pulled Nathaniel's nerves. This is not the first time he overreacted and initiated fights, but stooping so low to hurt a new girl? That is simply unacceptable. Last year he let the old student body president and principle to take care of Ruben's misbehavior. This year, he suddenly have to handle him. Even worse, although he is the student body president, he couldn't bring up Ruben's misbehavior to the principle as much as he wants to do so.

Nathan was sitting down on the sofa in student body common room when Renata's voice was heard. "Listen. Hey. Calm down, alright?"

Good timing. Renata always able to calm him down. "I understand, but i know you. Everything will be fine."

It seems like she's having a conversation on the phone. He was about to walk into the conference room when he heard, "yes, i'll see you after school, love. Take care."

Love?

Renata walked out of the room as she hang up, she jumped out of surprise when she saw Nathaniel. "Nate. Hey."

"You were on the phone?"

"Yeah. With a friend." She said as she passed him ignorantly.

"Renata, you can tell me the truth." He held her wrist, not letting her go.

She turned around, staring at the back of his head. "Yeah, i know. I'm not lying." Her voice was convincing. "Why should I?"

He slowly turned around. "I'm sorry." He smiled. "I just feel tired, and since that day, you haven't really properly talked to me."

"Nate, I really cared about you. You know I do. But..." she stopped while inhaling a long breath. "I think of you as my brother. Please, don't do this to me." Her soft voice cracked his heart.

He wondered for awhile, Why does he have to remind her of that day and re-opened his broken heart?

Nathaniel walked out of the Student Body Common Room with a deep cut in his heart, for how many times could she convince Renata that he really cared about her? Couldn't she see it or is she just trying to annoy him? No, the only reason why he likes her was because she has always been gentle and honest. If there has been someother guy though, why would she lie to him? They had been best friends for ages. He knew he risked their friendships, but is it his fault for being honest to her?

As he walked across the hallway, he saw the new blonde new girl, Brenda, wasn't it? She was walking hurriedly in front of Jaclyn and her friends, before she tripped over and fell. Laughters broke from the kids surrounding them. Nathaniel remembered now, she was the same girl whom he had helped this morning. He giggled to himself, what a clumsy one. Brenda reminded him of his little sister.

Nathaniel couldn't heard what Jaclyin was saying, but knowing what the mean blonde usually said, he was pretty sure it wasn't something good. As the daughter of a five-star hotel, she was quite a stuck-up girl. When he finally reached up to Brenda, Jaclyn and her friends were already walking away.

"Are...." His words cut off by Brenda's shrieked. "Are you okay?!" He ran across holding her in his arm.

"Spi.. Spi... Spider!" She shrieked and passed out on his arm. A huge spider crawled on Brenda's shirt, which he quickly freed it.

"Ruben!" Nathaniel breathed out as he carried Brenda up, bringing her to the school clinic. He knew he has to talk to that bad guy, and this time, he really has to create a treaty before a war broke out and ruined his last year as the school body president.
