School Rule #16: It's the time of the month? Control emotion. A sentence could ruin your whole day.
Chapter 16: Tell Me Why
Renata walked around in the empty bathroom near her psychology class, she could feel anger and discomfort building up inside her. There still hasn't been any reply from Ruben. Why has he been avoiding her? Did she do something wrong? Why is he with Brenda?
Suddenly she felt jealous towards Brenda. First it was Jaclyn, now it's Brenda. What was Ruben trying to do? Is he purposely playing around with her? She couldn't focus nor concentrate on her study. She has been in full control of her feeling with Ruben the past months they were together. Then he was gone during the game on saturday, and so was his feeling towards her. She misses him so much that it kills her, she felt like it has been a million dogs year since she heard Ruben's voice. He never did this to her before. Why the sudden change?
Renata tried to calm herself down and walked out of the bathroom, towards the psychology class, trying to make sure that she won't burst into tears or become too emotional in public. She has a good image to handle as a vice student body president and an olympiad violinist.
As Renata walked into the psychology class, Brenda excitedly gestured Renata to sit beside her. Renata wanted to choke Brenda in her mind, however she remembered her duty to take care of Brenda. It felt like a heavy burden now.
Renata took a deep breath and forced a smile uneasily and took a seat next to Brenda. She needs to be smart and in control of her emotion. "Hey, how's your weekend, Brenda?"
Brenda kept quiet for awhile, but a slight pink color was visible on her pale cheek. "it was strange." She added, while still blushing. "Ruben came and stayed over in my place. I thought he was as mean as everyone said, but he really is a different person." Brenda answered, sounded happy and excited at the same time.
"That's... Great then." Renata replied, again with a forced smile. What is he even doing there?! Her mind felt completely unease, she tried to control her voice as she asked, "How did he stay over in your place?"
"I'm not sure, really. He just came and he was sick."
"sick?" Even Renata didn't know that he was sick. "Is he okay?"
"I cooked him some chicken soup..." Brenda answered absentmindedly. "I have to spoon-fed him yesterday. It feels weird... I never knew i would spoon-fed Ruben ever!" She exclaimed, her cheek suddenly turned pink.
Even Renata never cooked Ruben anything, she never had the chance to take care of Ruben when he was sick, let alone spoon-feeding him. They are backstreet! She couldn't do what all the other couple do. How could Ruben let Brenda did that? How did he even find out where Brenda lives?! No, why is he even going there? He could have came to her house, but he never did.
"I saw you with Nathaniel this morning." Brenda suddenly commented. "Are you guys... Together? It's his arm alright?"
"His arm is getting better, I hope." Renata answered and stopped, thinking whether she should lied about Nathaniel and her. "Well, i slept over in his house last night." That seems like a safe answer, now Brenda could assume all she wants. Surprisingly Renata found Brenda looked disappointed by the statement she made. This is strange. Renata thought.
Jaclyn suddenly sat on the table in front of Renata and Brenda, giving them a nasty interesting look. "So... Renata Montez slept with Robinson's son?" She winked at her naughtily. "Tell me more. Is he quick? Slow? Nasty? SM type?" Jaclyn bunnies were laughing next to her, chanting Renata's name.
So much for keeping her reputation. Renata taught. She just slipped out something she should have never said. In the corner of her eyes, she saw Julie Monaco, the head of School's Bulletin and the daughter of Princeton Post editor, writing furiously in her journal. Renata knew what this means, headlines will broke out tomorrow. How could she be so stupid?
"Shut it, Jaclyn. As if I don't know about things you do with Troy Zolansky." Renata exclaimed. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. Renata smiled.
"Troy Zolansky?" People were questioning all around them. Who doesn't know Troy Zolansky? The rapper of the hit single, "Shower with Love.", a mega superstar and an ex-Rhapsody who got kicked out for sabotaging Trent Coast Scholastic Decathlon apparatus last year.
Jaclyn smiled as if she was winning. "We were thinking of going public on the upcoming Easter Masquerade Ball. Since you have to bring it up," Jaclyn smiled and turned to the whole class. "Guys, could we please keep this a secret until then? I promised to give all of you Troy's CD each." She pleaded insincerely, but she looks happy that she shouldn't be the one to bring up the news that she's dating a megasuperstar. Renata has been defeated.
"You're having a concert in the Easter Ball this month right, Rena? Who will be your plus one?" Jaclyn winked again, "oh. Of course. The infamous Robinson son. Hopefully his arms will be good enough to dance with you by then."
Renata could feel her cheek burning with anger. She couldn't even put it into words how much she hated Jaclyn and how she was able to manipulate her into saying things. She regretted that she even say anything at all today and this is only the beginning of the day.
