Chapter 21: The Blind Dinner
"Dad!" Brenda's voice could be heard throughout the whole house of Collins. "I can't go to your Boss' dinner thing tonight! Please!"
"Bee, this is really important for my promotion and that means it will affect your monthly allowance too. Don't you care about your allowance?"
Brenda made a sulky face, before trying harder, "Mom! I have to go to this Masquerade thing tonight."
"What masquerade?" Mrs. Collins placed a bowl of nachos along with some salsa on the dining table.
"This party. At Leighton's..."
"You're going to parties?" Her dad raised an eyebrow. "You know what we've talked about these kinds of parties."
"It's not like that. I promise. It's a socialite event thing and I'm invited! This is huge, Dad!"
"Well, She's not a kid anymore." Brook suddenly walked into the kitchen and placed a palm of nachos into his mouth.
"I'm not so sure though. How will you get there and get home anyway?" Mrs. Collins placed her shoulder on her husband's shoulder, as a gesture of support.
"A friend would... pick me up.." Brenda answered uneasily.
"Who?" Her dad voiced full of doubts. Brenda couldn't say that it is Nathaniel Robinson. Despite he is the governor's son that is probably a bigger reason why her dad wouldn't allow. All these socialites boys are players, Mr. Collins used to say.
Looking at her sister's disappointed face, Brook came to the rescue. "The Greyson Twins, wasn't it?"
"Ah. Your new friends." Mr. Collins nodded. "Greyson?"
"Isn't that the family who had the highest share on National Bank?" Her mother suddenly remembered.
"Yeah. That's the one." Brook answered.
"Well, Bee darling, you father's boss is the one who has been donating for your school fees. We can't just skip his engagement dinner like that."
Brenda sighed and gave in, "Okay,"
"well," her father suddenly stopped her. "As long as you make an appearance, i will allow you to leave early. With one condition, Brook must come with you."
"Yeiy!" Brenda jumped and hugged her father's neck. Now it's time for Brook to sulk.
Getting permission. Check! Brenda thought. She has only forgotten one teeny tiny important detail, she has no dress!
In panic, she hurriedly call Ashley, "Ash! Oh my gosh... Uhm... I just realized i have no dress!"Gabriella's voice could be heard from far. "At all??"
"At all." Brenda stated matter-of-factly. She feels really embarrassed about it, but she had never been to any party before.
"We're preparing for the Ball tonight. Swing by and we'll get you something." Ashley answered.
"Okay. Bye." Brenda hang up and hurriedly went to her parents. "Dad, Mom, i have to go to Ashley and Gabby's house to borrow a dress. Do you mind if i meet up with you on the restaurant instead?"
Brook was still chugging in more nachos in the dining room.
"Brook, i'm not letting your sister take Taxi alone. Can you please send her and make sure she really IS NOT going to skip the dinner tonight?" Her dad gave Brenda a nasty look before ending her answer."Wait! I'm not ready!" Brook complained. "We can't just leave and went straight to the dinner!"
"Well, I am in hurry!" Brenda pulled her brother's out of the house.
