Chapter 1.

Many people have said that love is not something we have any choice in, it just happens by fate. Fate brings all of these random strangers into your life. You may not have ever wanted to be around a person like them, but we don't have a choice. We can't change what fate brings us.

"You've got to be kidding me?"

"I'm not Ash this is serious I would never joke about it."

"No, no, no I'm not doing it, Kyle. I just can't, and you should know that."

"Then how exactly are you going to explain to the Imperium about the new addition to your Char necklace?"

"I will hide it, or try to take it off, or something. I am not going to have to explain anything to anyone."

" You use it for identification in traveling you can't just hide it. They will have to see it, and when your  'love' isn't registered what then? Also, no one in history has been able to take off their Char necklace. Wasn't that the point in the first place?"

He had a point. The girl's Char necklaces were given to us at birth, and it's permanently on even when you die. It changes in different ways during your life like when you find love when you have kids, and other significant things. Random pendants show up on the necklace during these points. It also holds all of your information, including DNA, past history, and family information. There is no way to take it off. The end is welded shut and nothing can burn it or cut it.

I sigh in frustration knowing all my plans would fail. I fall down on my couch in the middle of my family room. Ivory walls surrounding me. Kyle walks over from his chair, sits down next to me, and wraps his arm around my shoulder as I rest my head on his.

"It will be okay," he says in a hushed tone while smoothing down my brown wavy hair.

"How could you think that? Everyone will know I'm in love and then ask who it is, and I just can't say it's you!"

Kyle is from a different Legion, and the Imperium's rules say we aren't allowed to even talk to someone out of our Legion unless it is for work, but I guess neither of us could help it. People can't help who they love.

"I promise we will think of something Ash," he says so calmly.

"Fine I will believe you for now but if you don't think of something fast I might just have to try my plan, no matter how much it hurts to try," I say smartly.

"At least, you believe in me a little," he adds. I laugh, but the feeling of hopelessness consumes me. How am I supposed to explain the very apparent love stone on my chain? The thoughts of ways I can somehow hide it or do something take over me. Kyle and I sit in silence for a while.

Kyle breaks the silence by asking, "you okay? You've been kinda quiet." He lifts himself up from his slacked position to look at me better like if he saw my face he would be able to read my thoughts. He knows me so well now. It's like he has known me forever.

"I'm sorry, just all this is very hard to handle," I sigh.

"Yeah, I know it is. You will be just fine, and we will fix all this, but for now I have to go. I don't want to get caught by Imperium," Kyle says as he gets off the couch. He gently kisses me on my forehead, and I can't help but blush.

"Fine just don't get caught, please. What would I do without you?" I tease. He laughs as he walks out the door and closes it behind him. I slide down on the couch and lay here in silence looking up at the white ceiling thinking. What if no one had every created the Legions. If that happened Kyle and I wouldn't have to be apart.
