Not To Plan

Me and Enid talked for a while about how we would work everything out.
We had come to a decision that nobody would find out until everything was okay... For both of us. Enid had made it clear that I needed to talk to Carl as he should find out before anybody else.

Enid: "I'm going to have to go but it's been really nice. Yanno having someone to talk to..."

I smiled and wrapped her in a final bear hug.

You: "I'll try to find Carl it's best that I sort everything out between me and him before I break the news."

She agreed cheerfully and began getting ready to leave.
I really wanted to just grab her and talk forever but I knew i couldn't.
She has her own life and if I got too clingy now she wouldn't even give me the time of day.

You: "We should meet sometime tomorrow, it could be like a date!"
Enid: "Sounds like it could be fun you just pick a time and place, I'll be there!"
You: "3:00 meet me near the pond."

She just smiled at me and gave a hasty wink before grabbing her jacket and leaving me smiling like an idiot.
I imagined in my head how our date would go, I wanted it to be special something she would remember I needed to make an impact.

I jumped back into reality and found myself hugging a pillow and smiling enthusiastically.
As I put my pillow back in it's position I heard a pained mutter followed by a loud gasp.

You "E.. Enid are you still there?"

No reply of course.

I was eager to find the source of the noise and immediately began searching the house.

It was apparent that the noise wasn't coming from upstairs.

And upon inspecting the kitchen it wasn't coming from there either.

I had almost given up when I heard a muffled cough coming from under the stairs, I hesitated slightly before pulling open the door under the stairs.

You: "Carl?! H.. How long have you been here?!"
Carl: "Oh yeah, of corse that's all you care about!"

His face was red and drenched with tears.

You: "No.. That's not what I..."
Carl: "Oh so what? You care about my feelings all of a sudden?! Now that you've finally got 'the love of your life' which I'd like to add you've only known for a few days!"
You: "Carl please..."

My lungs imploded and tears burst from my eyes.

Just when I finally thought everything was going to be okay.

Just when my life was starting to look up for once...

Carl: "Why are you still here?! You decided you'd stay to pity me? Well you can fuck off! I want NOTHING to do with you! You've got everything you need now! So go and have a awesome life and leave me here..."
You: "I don't want... I just..."

I fell down to my knees as if gravity was pulling me towards the centre of earth. My head dropped into my hands and I heard Carl stand up.

Carl: "I'm not going to say I regret meeting you but I wouldn't mind if my dad had left you at that prison to die..."

How could he say that?!
Even after everything I had done, what he said we uncalled for.

I could chase him and try to talk but what would I even say.

Instead I decided to stay here... Alone.
