Chapter Eight - They Come In Pairs

I awoke and found myself wrapped in Wretched's arms. My clothes on the car floor, quietly I grabbed them. Then I opened the door, the one away from the group, and carefully got out trying not to wake anyone. The car door made a small click as I closed it slowly.

After I got dressed I grabbed Dr. D's journal and walked towards a tree. I sat down, leaning my back against the tree and began to read again.

Entry Three - Shattered is in our care, she refuses to talk to any of us because she doesn't trust us. She's a fighter, she had Kobra Kid and Fun Ghoul on the ground. Party Poison and Jet Star were able to detain her.

They had to inject her with a sleeping medication but we got her. We searched her and found a number two tattooed on her, almost like a birthmark. She looks just like her mom, has my dark hair though.

Party asked what happened with her mom and I, she thought the BLI would make things better. She took my little girl and went back to Battery City and I thought they were doing fine. Maybe they were, I will have to ask her what happened to her mother and why she has the number.

My mother? I remember that night when I told my story to them. My backstory was a dark one, only the Fab Four knew about it now. I heard footsteps getting closer, I grabbed my raygun and pointed.

"Easy, it's just me." Skye walked closer, "I saw you sitting here and everyone is still asleep. Thought maybe we could talk."

I put my raygun back in its holster, scooted over and smacked the ground next to me offering her a seat. "I guess we haven't had much time to talk with everything going on." Skye sat next to me, she smiled sweetly and I couldn't help but smile back.

"How long have you and Wretched been partners?"

"A little over six months, he saved me from the BLI headquarters. We nearly lost each other several times. It was hard to trust him, since he was Korse's son."

"Wait Korse's son?"

"Yeah, he rebelled against his father and saved me. It's interesting really, Korse's son and Dr. Death Defying's daughter are Killjoy partners. So what about you and Phoenix?"

"Just about six months, we escaped the day of the battle you guys had. I can't believe the BLI van sent out for us, found you instead. Phoenix feels horrible about his past, he'll never forgive himself."

She brushed hair back behind her ear and I noticed her number again. Skye had an ability, we weren't sure what it was though, but I hoped Dr. D wrote it down somewhere. "Do you have any idea what your gift is?"

"I don't know, there's nothing special about me really. I mean....." Her eyes became focused, she was thinking about something.

"Skye, what is it?"

"There was something, one of the days Korse came in to torture me. I decided I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of screaming anymore, so I was trying to hold back my agony. I looked up at the ceiling, trying to focus on anything but the pain. My eyes focused on the light fixtures, I started to shake and then all of a sudden the lights shattered. Pieces of glass fell and we were in pitch blackness."

"Electricity? What could it be?" I looked over to her, she was twirling her finger in the sand. The sand was rising up forming a miniature tornado. "Skye, how are you doing that?"

"Doing what?" I pointed and she saw what I saw. "I don't know." Before we could continue there were more footsteps. Party, Wretched and Phoenix walked over.
