Deadicated to Chocolatee_Kissez for giving me my first comment!
Chapter 29
When it started getting dark, I realized that I must have been out here for hours. Sighing, I headed back to the house. Entering through the door connected to the kitchen, I looked at the clock on the stove and saw that I still had two hours until Nick's flight came in.
I grabbed a mug from the cabinets and poured some milk in it, heating it in the microwave. When it was done, I added in some hot chocolate mix I found in the pantry and stirred it until the powder disappeared.
“What are you making?”
I jumped and turned around, glaring that the person who scared me. “Hot chocolate.”
Seth leaned back against the counter and crossed his arms over his chest. “I haven't had that in years.”
My jaw dropped. “How have you not had hot chocolate in years? It's like chocolate ice cream, but warm, and I know how much you like chocolate ice cream.”
He shrugged. “Just forgot about it, I guess. Cole likes it a lot.” He grabbed a mug and heated up the milk, making his own hot chocolate.
“Hey, can you do a favor for me?” I asked, biting my lip.
He shrugged again. “Sure.”
“Nick's flight is coming in at 8:00. Can you drive me to the airport to pick him up?”
“Yeah,” he answered, keeping his eyes on his mug as he stirred in the powder.
“Are you okay?” I timidly asked. I know that Seth doesn't like to open up, but it seemed like something was really bothering him considering that he keeps answering in short responses.
He didn't bother to look up as he answered, keeping his eyes on the counter. “I'm fine.”
I put my hands on my hips and stared him down. “Really, Seth, what's wrong?”
He looked up and met my eyes this time. “Nothing! I just wanted to apologize for what I said earlier. It was wrong of me to treat you like a prize and I didn't mean to. Cole just annoys me by always acting like he's better than me. It started off with my dad and now that he's gone, Cole feels the need to constantly remind me that he liked him so much better than me. I was just a waste of space in my dad's eyes and Cole was the golden child. I finally found someone that doesn't see me that way and Cole still feels the need to act like he's better than me. I'm tired of it. Now that I finally know how you feel about me, Cole wants to rip you way from me, even though he lost his chance with you.”
I sighed and walked over to him, resting a hand on his forearm. “Look, I forgive you. I was mostly angry at Cole that he tricked me like that and I took some of that out on you. I know that you didn't mean it, but I really don't want to be treated like a trophy. It really pisses me off when people are only dating because of their looks or they're only using each other for sex.”
“I know and I didn't mean to associate you with people like them, but I just wanted Cole to know that not everybody loves him; some are immune to his charm and others are sadly pulled into it. He's not as he appears to be and I'm sick and tired of people always thinking that I'm the bad guy. Yes, I can come off as a little intimidating--”
“Just a little?” I cut in, raising an eyebrow. “You tried to kill me.”
Seth looked down at the ground and sighed. “I know, and I really am sorry, but I desperately needed to feed and you were the first person that came to mind. I am happy that Cole was there though. If he wasn't, I don't even want to think about what would have happened.”
