Chapter 17

My jaw dropped as Seth’s words repeated in my head. Ian is a ratamon. My mom’s boyfriend eats souls. Mom probably doesn’t even know. If Ian is one, then who else is? “Are there any others that I don’t know about?”

“Well, Mr. Tyler, the calculus teacher, and Mr. Jay, your chemistry teacher, are werewolves. Ms. Evers, the art teacher, is a witch.”

Mr. Jay is a werewolf? Is that why he’s so good-looking? I know that sounds really weird, but with his dark hair and bright blue eyes, he’s like the non-famous Ian Somerhalder. Of course, Seth still beats him, but it’s not like I’m going to tell either of them that.

“Are vampires real?” I know that some people would laugh in my face at that question, but I’m being completely serious. If all of these other creatures exist, who says vampires don’t?

Seth nodded. “You don’t know any, but I’ve ran into a few before. There are a lot in the big cities, like New York, Boston, and Los Angeles. They like to feed as much as they can, and in a city of that size, they can do so without having to worry about being caught. It’s like a huge buffet for them.”

How am I this blind? There are so many supernatural creatures wandering around and I’m only hearing about them now? They were right in front of me, too! I always thought that Mr. Jay and Mr. Tyler were normal, but no, they get to turn into wolves once a month. It turns out that my freshman art teacher, Ms. Evers, mutters spells and brews potions.

And there are even more out there! Who knows, maybe some of Nick’s college friends are supernaturals. Any person that I see walking down the street could be one! Must I be mentally challenged to not see this?! What is wrong with me?! How many people have I seen that could drink blood or feed on souls, or brew potions and mumble spells, or turn into a furry wolf, or who knows what?!

“Wait, you said that vampires like big cities?”

Seth raised an eyebrow. “Yeah, why?”

My eyes widened in panic. “Seth, my brother goes to Columbia! He could be killed by a vampire!”

            “Lindsay, calm down-”

“I can’t calm down, Seth! My brother could be attacked by a vampire and I wouldn’t even know!”

Seth grabbed my wrists to keep me from swinging at him. “Look, unless your brother is dumb enough to wander around New York City at night, then I think he’s okay. If he’s anything like you, then I know that he is perfectly fine.”

I forced myself to calm down at Seth’s words. Nick’s not stupid enough to do that, right? He’s a smart 20 year old guy, who likes to party and have fun, which includes going out at night. “Seth, that’s not helping! He likes to go out and party on Friday nights!”

“I’m sure he’s fine. As long as he stays on campus, he should be safe.”

I clamed down at his words and took a deep breath. “Are any of my friends supernaturals?”

Seth sighed. “Lindsay, if any of them are and wanted you to know, then they would have told you.”

“Are any of them, Seth?” I pressed. “I know that Harley is, but that’s only because you and Cole told me.”
