Madison's POV
Light snores escaped Ross, his body curled up under the blankets as the slept soundly. He looked so peaceful, so content that it would be such a shame to wake him up. I grinned, quietly reaching for a pillow he wasn't cuddling and lifted it above my head, slamming it down on his form.He jolted awake, lurching forward as his eyes widened before narrowing when he saw me. I smiled sheepishly. "Why the hell did you wake me up? I was having a very nice dream."
I quirked an eyebrow. "What kind of dream, Ross?"
His cheeks immediately flushed. "Doesn't matter." He mumbled before clearing his throat. "Any reason you woke me up at," he glanced at the clock. "Barely ten in the morning? Seriously, Mads? Don't you know how much I like sleep?"
"I do, but would you rather find someone to spend the rest of your life with, or sleep?"
He yawned. "It may be because I'm tired, but sleep."
I chuckled, pulling the blankets off his body, causing him to groan. "Come on, dude. Get dressed, we're hanging out today."
"I thought we were going out to find a girl for me?" He questioned, jumping out of bed. My eyes landed on his naked torso, his abs rippling as he moved. He cleared his throat, obviously catching my staring. My cheeks turned a deep shade of red while he smirked. "I knew you wanted me."
"Shut up." I muttered, playfully shoving his shoulder. He laughed, making his way into the bathroom. "And we are going to find you a girl, but I figured we could hangout at the same time. We haven't hung out much, and it's time we change that."
With his toothbrush hanging out of his mouth, Ross averted his eyes to me. He removed the toothbrush and spat in the sink before opening his mouth to speak. "I miss hanging out with you, too, Mads. But with you working almost everyday and me trying to write new songs..."
"I know." I nodded, giving him a sad smile. "And I would never have you stop writing songs just so we can hangout. You career is much-"
"Don't you dare say what I think you're going to say." He cut in sharply. I clamped my mouth shut, feeling myself shrinking under his intense gaze. "You're my best friend. If I had to choose between my career and you, I'd choose you in a heartbeat. I love music, but I love you more. So please don't say my career is more important than you, because it's not. My family and my best friend are all I need in this world."
I grinned, wrapping my arms around his waist, relishing in the feeling of our skin making contact. He reciprocated the hug, wrapping his arms around my neck and placing his chin atop my head. The toothbrush remained in his hand, resting between his fingers.
"You were really cheesy just then, you know that right?" I tilted my head back to look at him, resisting the urge to giggle like a schoolgirl.
He rolled his eyes, the corners of his lips twitching upwards. "You just ruined a moment. Thanks a lot."
"You're welcome."

"When you said hangout, I didn't think that meant following you around while you shopped for clothes." Ross deadpanned, emphasizing his point by lifting up the bags with the clothes I had already purchased. "How will this help me find a girl?"
"Girls love to shop." I told him. "And when they see you offering to hold my bags, they'll see how caring you are."
"But I didn't offer. You gave them to me."
I rolled my eyes. "They don't know that. Now come on, onto the next store." I grasped his hand, pulling him towards Forever 21. I ignored his whine of protest, promising to buy him a smoothie afterwards.
That shut him up real quick.
I should've expected the ogling eyes on Ross once we stepped foot inside- Ross was incredibly good looking- but this was ridiculous. It was like everyone stopped looking through racks and shelves of clothes just to stare at him. He was a person, not a piece of meat.
I bet they only wanted him for his sausage.
I wanted Ross to find the perfect girl that would love him for who he was, not his looks. He was probably the sweetest guy in the world, always putting his family and friends before himself. When I had a bad day at work, he ordered us takeout and bought a nice bottle of wine to try and comfort me. I may have gotten drunk, but I did feel better. Ross was the definition of a perfect man.
As we looked throughout the store, Ross basically following me like a puppy- not complaining because puppies are adorable- I caught sight of a girl around my age by the dresses. She had pretty dirty blonde hair that was curled, a pink beanie placed at the top of her head. She was wearing a cute cold shoulder swing dress with a pair of black converses.
She reminded me of Ross, just the girl version.
I kicked him with my foot, noticing how his head was bent and his eyes were staring right at his phone. He looked up, raising his eyebrows. "What?"
I motioned to the female Ross twin with my head. "Go talk to her."
He pocketed his phone. "Go talk to her?" He repeated. "Just like that? I'm supposed to just walk up and start talking?"
"Why are you acting like I asked you the hardest question in the world?" I questioned. "Just go talk to her. She seems like your type."
"How can you tell? All you've done is look at her."
"That's how good I am."
"Do I need to remind you how the other two dates went?" He chuckled.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "Go talk to her."
He placed my bags on the ground, giving me a two-finger salute before walking towards the girl. Please let this go well, I thought.
I placed myself in front of a clothing rack that gave me a perfect view of my best friend and his potential girlfriend. I couldn't hear what they were saying, but given the smiles on both their faces, I had a feeling it was going well. The smile I wore myself slowly began to falter as I watched the two interact. Both their smiles were so wide, and that was a great sign, yet why was I slightly unhappy?
You know why. Don't lie to yourself.
I shook my head, focusing back on Ross and the mystery girl, only to quickly avert my gaze when he began walking towards me. I hurried to start looking through the clothes, as if I was looking through them the entire time.
"I know you were watching the whole thing, Mads." Was the first thing that came out of Ross' mouth. I smiled sheepishly, giving an innocent shrug. He should've known I was going to spy on him.
"So? How'd it go? What's her name?" Though it looked like it was going well, I wanted to know that it really did and he wasn't faking for the sake of my dignity. I had already set him up with two girls and both dates failed, and I was hoping this wasn't a repeat.
"Her names Carter, and it actually went really well." He smiled, raising his hand to flaunt a piece of paper. "Got her number and we're going out this Saturday."
"Ah, nice." I grinned, slapping his hand in a high-five. "Any plans for your date?" I asked, picking up my bags as we walked towards the exit.
"I was thinking of taking her to the carnival that's coming into town. Or is that too cliché?"
"It might be a bit too cliché, but not bad." I admitted, putting our conversation on pause so I could order us smoothies. Once we held the drinks in our hands, I continued. "What about the zoo or aquarium? You could buy her a stuffed animal, have her pet the baby animals...I think she would like that."
I know I would.
He grinned, nodding happily before pulling me in for a hug. "That's a great idea. Thank you, Mads."
I flashed him a smile, one that didn't reach my eyes. "Anything for my best friend."
For the first time since we've known each other, those words tasted bitter on my tongue.
